Barbara Lane Durfee

Barbara Lane Durfee passed away March 13, 2009, in Las Vegas.

She was born Sept. 25, 1960, and was a resident of Pahrump for 12 years, having come from Long Beach, Calif.

Barbara was two of five children born to John E. Durfee and Anne H. Willers.

Barbara had a passion for reading. Her favorite authors were Danielle Steel, Nora Roberts and Dean Koontz. She was also an avid Star Trek fan.

She was deeply loved and will be sadly missed.

She is survived by children Shelley Wistrom-Moore, Donald Wistrom and Stan Wistrom all of Pahrump and Merrill Wistrom of Las Vegas; siblings John Durfee of Virginia Beach, Va., Bill Durfee of Pahrump, Katie Anderson of Las Vegas and Dennis Durfee of Phoenix, Ariz., and grandchildren Ashley and William Moore.

Byron Deforest Underhill

Byron Deforest Underhill, 90, passed away March 21, 2009.

He was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Needles, Calif. Byron, his brother, Tom, and his father, Otto, ran the Coca Cola Co. in Las Vegas for many years.

He was a member of the Lions Club and Las Vegas Elks and he started the Burn Center at University Medical Center.

He was a veteran and flew two missions as a glider pilot during D-day into Normandy. He received the Air Medal and the Purple Heart for his service.

He was also a member of the Sheriff's Aero Squadron.

He enjoyed fishing at Lake Mead and hunting in Pahrump.

He was married to Ann Underhill for 48 years.

He moved to Panama in 2002 and married Manerva.

He is survived by his sons, Edward and Gary and his daughter Bonnie Sue; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., April 5 at the Las Vegas Elks Lodge, Charleston and Valley View. (03/21/2009)

Edward S. Bishop

Edward S. Bishop, Pahrump resident since 1989, passed away March 23, 2009.

Ed was born the son of Vincent L. and Marie Bishop in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Feb. 7, 1952.

He married his loving wife, Cora, Oct. 27, 2001.

Ed served three terms on the Pahrump Town Board as chairman and vice chairman, was a founding member of the regional planning commission, co-owner of Swine Flew Exotics, served one term on the Nye County Board of Equalization, served as chairman of the Services Assistance Program, was a member of Friends of the Library for four years, was a member of the Nye County Republican Central Committee and was most recently elected to the Pahrump Valley Senior Center Board of Trustees.

In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by his mother, Marie Bishop of Cove, Ark; brothers Bill (Shelia) Bishop of Colorado Springs, Shelby (Jean) Bishop of Rocky Hill, Conn., Vincent (Wanda) Bishop of Tarriffville, Conn., and Norrell (Belinda) Bishop of Pahrump; sisters Marilyn (Roy) Lister of Cove, and Janice (Rick) Saxe of Albuquerque, N.M.; sons Jerry (Angie) Carrington and Josh Carrington of Pahrump; daughters Shante (Sean) Chadburn of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Bethany Opsahl of Colorado Springs; cherished grandchildren Nick, Layla and Jada Carrington of Pahrump and 18 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vincent Bishop; sister Nancy Wendt and son Jon Carrington.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. April 3 in the Bob Ruud Community Center. Island wear will be appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Ed Bishop Memorial fund established at First International Bank or c/o Janice Saxe, 4491 E. Cheyenne Way, Pahrump, NV 89061.

Sondra Dawn Twesme

Sondra Dawn Twesme, 69, passed away March 9, 2009, in Evergreen of Pahrump.

Her loving Duane and the prayers of many were with her at the time of her death.

She was born in Racine, Wis., March 28, 1939, the daughter of the late William and Nina Bohn.

Sandy found her calling in life as a professional care giver and certified licensed practical nurse and intensive care nurse. She gave to her community as a dedicated professional, friend, and neighbor both during her career and after her retirement.

Sandy raised four children that have taken her values of life and embraced them as their own. She was a great wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be truly missed.

Sandy affected the hearts of family, friends, and neighbors. She will always be cherished and remembered.

Surviving are her husband, Duane; children, Cindy (Daniel) Schlichting of Murrayville, Ga., Michelle (John) Verikas of Racine, Richard (Candace) Coey of Warrensburg, Mo., and Anthony (Dawn) Coey of Racine; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; brother, David (Kathleen) Bohn and sister, Kathleen (Fred) White of Black River Falls, Wis. Her nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends further survive her.

A memorial celebration of her life will be held in Wisconsin. (03/09/2009)
