VFW in September

The VFW hosts a swap meet the 2nd Sunday of each month 7-3 p.m. on the VFW grounds. Reservations for a spot are $7 if you bring your own table and $10 if you rent one from the VFW.

There is free parking and the Marine Corps League are serving up the hamburgers and hotdogs for a nominal fee.

The American Legion, Riders and Auxiliary meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month 6-7 p.m.

The MOC/MOCA Cooties meet on the 3rd Saturday at 11 a.m., followed by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary at 1 p.m.

Wednesday -- poker, noon;

Friday -- dinner, 5-7 p.m. Check the menu at 727-6072.

Saturday -- darts;

Sunday -- breakfast, 8-11 a.m.

PVRR Gymkhana schedule

Pahrump Valley Rough Riders next show is Saturday Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. Sign-ups will begin at 4:30 and close at 5:30. No late sign-ups will be accepted.

AGLOW meets

AGLOW, the interdenominational international Christian Women's Organization will meet at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 20 at The Rock Vineyard Church beside Smith's Food and Drug.

Saved by Grace rally

Saved by Grace Lutheran Church will hold a rally day to sign up for Christian education at 10 a.m. Sept. 21 in the Mt. Charleston Elementary multi-purpose room, 1521 E. Idaho St.

Nye Gold Seekers meeting

The Nye Gold Seekers will meet at 1 p.m., Sept. 21 in Phil Shallenberger's hangar, 1061 E. Jet Place in the Calvada Aeropark, corner of Helicopter Avenue and Jet Place.

The speakers will be Cassandra Radwich with instructions on how to read a map and Mike Norton will give information on how to file a mining claim.

DAV Mobile Service Office

There will be help for veterans who feel confused about the benefits and services they have earned.

There is much to know and changes from one year to the next.

The Disabled American Veterans Mobile Service Office will be at the following location to help veterans with counseling and claim filing assistance.

Oct. 2 -- 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., VFW Post 10054, Disabled American Veterans, Pahrump chapter No. 15, 4651 S. Homestead Road.

The service is free to all veterans and members of their families.

Gold Seekers outing

The Nye Gold Seekers will go on an outing to Johnnie Sept. 20. The group leaves from Burger King at 7:30 a.m.

Free computer instruction is available for beginning-level computer users on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Sign-up in person available at the library.

Classes are: "Basic Computer," "Beyond Basics," "Advanced Basics," and "Genealogy." Check at the library for dates and times.

Shakespeare Made Simple will be held 10 a.m.-noon the 3rd Saturday of each month,

Tuesdays 4-6 p.m., is Shakespeare Readers' Theatre. Both are free and open to all ages.

Sept. 20 -- Pahrump Anime, movies are; Gunparade March No. 7-8, 12-noon; Inuyasha No. 8-10 (English), 1 p.m.; Ragnarok No. 3 (English), 2 p.m.; Devil May Cry No. 6 (sub-titled), 2:30 p.m.; TBA (English), 3 p.m.

There will be a collage contest with prizes. No unaccompanied children under 10.

There will be no movie day in September due to the Fall Festival. Movies will resume in October.

Flu shot clinics

The Bureau of Community Health will hold walk-in flu shot clinics 8-3 p.m. Sept. 19; 1-7 p.m. Sept. 24 and 9-4 p.m. Sept. 29 at the clinic, 250 N. Highway 160, Suite 6.

The flu shot is offered to adults only.

Medicare or Medicaid cards are accepted, Senior Dimensions is accepted as well. The cost to all others is $20.

Fundraiser for the Duck Pond

NyE Communities Coalition Youth Organization is holding a fundraiser for the Calvada Duck Pond.

Adopt-a-Duck trading cards are available from youth group members at a minimum donation of $10 per card.

There are 10 different cards to collect.

Proceeds will be used for supplies and improvements for the duck pond.

VFW Oktoberfest

The VFW will have an authentic German-cooked dinner 5-7 p.m. Oct. 3 at the post, 4651 S. Homestead Road.

The menu will include rouladen, red cabbage and spaetzle for $7, eat in or take out.

Homeschool bowling

The Pahrump Homeschool Bowling League begins the fall season at 9 a.m. Sept. 19.

The season will be 10 consecutive games/weeks at the same time.

The league is open to home schooled children ages 3-17 with parental permission.

The cost is $65 per bowler.

Each child will bowl two games each week, shoe rental is included and the last day will be a pizza party and awards ceremony.

Job Fair postponed

Due to the current slow economy and decreased consumer spending, many employers are not hiring new employees. Therefore, the Pahrump Welfare Office has postponed the annual job fair scheduled for Sept. 25 at the Pahrump Nugget.

The event will be rescheduled at a later date when timing will benefit both employers and those seeking employment.

Pet adoption

The Nye County Animal Shelter will hold a pet adoption 10-2 p.m. Sept. 20 at Hollywood Video, 240 S. Highway 160.

Fees for dogs and puppies are $64 and fees for cats and kittens are $36.

All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease and respiratory disorders and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they may be eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare.
