KICKOFF 4 P.M. TODAY Beatty home against LundPVT
Beatty resumes its football season today at 4 p.m., taking on Lund's Mustangs in a non-Southern Division game, on the Hornets' field. The Hornets, directed by first-year football coach Brian Hayes, lost 42-0 in their opener against Beaver Dam of Littlefield, Ariz., last week. Beatty begins division play Sept. 19 at home against Sandy Valley. Other division matchups are Sept. 26, at Pahranagat Valley Alamo; Oct. 3, at home against Round Mountain; Oct. 10, at home against Indian Springs and Oct. 30, at Tonopah. The Hornets have a non-division game Oct. 17 at Laughlin and a league contest at home against Spring Mountain Oct. 24. Alamo is undefeated in two starts, while Round Mountain, Indian Springs and Spring Mountain are each 1-0. The top four teams in both the Southern and Northern 1-A leagues qualify for the playoffs. First-round matchups Nov. 8 are No. 4 South at No. 1 South, No. 3 South at No. 2 South, No. 4 North at No. 1 North and No. 3 North at No. 2 North. The teams are re-seeded for the semifinals, to be played Nov. 15. No. 2 North will play at No. 1 South and No. 2 South travels to No. 1 South, with the winners advancing to the state championship game, to be played Nov .22 at Arbor View High School in Las Vegas. Defending champion Tonopah has gotten off to a rocky start, losing non-league games at Carlin (36-32) and at Diamond Ranch Academy in Hurricane, Utah (38-20).
