The Bureau of Land Management is considering an application for a special recreation permit for an off-road race that could have an impact on hunters with big game tags in five Southern Nevada hunt units.

If the Best in the Desert Silver State 300 is approved, there will be no official road closures associated with the race; however, hunters should be aware that they will see an increase in both vehicle and human activity in usually remote areas of hunt units 223, 231, 241, 242 and 271.

The 300-mile race is scheduled for Sept. 27 and with all associated activities will impact portions of Lincoln County and Clark County.

In addition, a pre-race reconnaissance ride will be offered Saturday and Sunday.

This ride will cover the entire length of the race course with speeds not to exceed 45 miles per hour. There will be no speed restriction during the official race.

Race organizers anticipate approximately 100 spectators in addition to 150 event participants driving full-size trucks, buggies, motorcycles and ATV's.

If the permit is granted, hunters and other users will be told to use the race course and surrounding areas at their own risk.
