4-A FALL SPORTS PV girl golfers secondPVT
Pahrump Valley made its debut in Sunset Region Southwest Division Class 4-A girls golf Tuesday, playing in a nine-hole match at Canyon Gate. And the Trojans made a lasting impression, finishing second to Nevada power Las Vegas Bishop Gorman. PVHS shot 192, with the Gaels at 186. No one else was close. Bonanza had 217, Spring Valley 217, Sierra Vista 238, Desert Oasis 252, Durango 255 and Clark 262. Ashley Keller led the Trojans with a 43, while teammates Meghan Morales and Sierra Fitzgibbons shot 46 and 49, respectively. For Bishop Gorman, Nichole Corpus-Massucci had an even-par 36, with Spring Valley's Julia Graham at 41. Western, which did not have a team entered in the division match, got a 45 from Charlee Kapiloho. At 46 was Gorman's Nicholette Rivera, with Bonanza's Hailey Leeming shooting a 48. Scoring 52 each were the Gaels' Kelly Horrell and Katie Wells. All of the Southwest Division matches are nine holes in the regular season, with all nine teams entered. The Southwest teams will play at Mountain Falls Sept. 15, starting at 11 a.m. * Host Clark and Durango won a quadrangular cross country meet Tuesday. The Clark boys won the 2.5-mile race with 30 points, while Durango had 49, Bonanza 64 and Pahrump Valley 124. In the girls meet, Durango had 36, Clark 37, Bonanza 58 and Pahrump Valley 58. Jake Naylor of Clark won the race in 14 minutes, 36 seconds, with Gavin Kavol of Bonanza second in 14:46. For Pahrump Valley, Elliott Owens was 13th in 16:13, with David Binderim 15th in 16:18 and David Jacobi 16th in 16:36. Mason John, Josh Armendariz, Jason Gent and Nathaniel Jacobi were 20th, 22nd, 25th and 28th, respectively. McKenzie Dean did not run for the PVHS girls, who were led by the sixth-place finish of Katie Anderson in 20 minutes. Katie Canino was 12th in 20:28. The winner, in 18:23.0, was Elisa Vasquez of Clark. Teammate Kira Espinoza was second in 19:03.0. Pahrump Valley will run in an invitational meet at Foothill High School in Henderson Saturday, starting at 7:30 a.m. Dean is expected to return to the PVHS lineup. |
