Eastern Star yard sale Stardust chapter No. 32 of Eastern Star will have a yard sale 8-2 p.m. Sept. 5 and 6 at 1901 Isaac St., off Leslie Street north of Basin Avenue. Fish Fry Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church will have a fish fry 4-7 p.m. Sept. 5 at the parish hall, 781 E. Gamebird Road. The menu includes a baked or fried fish dinner with fries and coleslaw and punch or coffee for $7. A fish taco dinner including fries and two tacos will be $6. Missed economic stimulus package During the Federal Income Tax season, the Pahrump Tax Aid group offered free tax service to people of the community. They have been advised that many persons in the Pahrump area are eligible for the ESP, but have not filed. Volunteer Homeland Reserve Unit VHRU is an organized group of retired and former law enforcement officers with the mission of providing trained and experienced resources to public safety agencies in Nevada and, potentially, to surrounding areas. VHRU maintains a Web site describing the mission and providing information regarding the organization, leadership, and on-going activities. Angels Have Wheels All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease and respiratory disorders and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they may be eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare. Employers from around Pahrump will be ready to speak with potential employees, accept applications and some may conduct interviews. Job seekers are encouraged to bring their work history resume and dress appropriately for an interview. Grandma needed Nevada Outreach Training Organization is seeking a volunteer "grandma" to work in the shelter. Qualifications include a lot of free time, must love kids and be a good listener, must be able to sleep at the shelter 2-3 nights a week. She can share baking and cooking skills with the mothers and might teach knitting or crocheting or other crafts. Bilingual is helpful as is a knowledge of first aid. Fundraiser for the Duck Pond Nye Communities Coalition Youth Organization is holding a fundraiser for the Calvada Duck Pond. Adopt-a-Duck trading cards are available from youth group members at a minimum donation of $10 per card. There are 10 different cards to collect. Donations for Quilts for Cancer Quilts for Cancer volunteers have worked all year to make Christmas stockings for home bound seniors in Pahrump. Leave a message. Power wheelchairs The Senior Wheels USA program makes power wheelchairs available to senior citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost to recipients if they qualify. Power wheelchairs are provided to those who can no longer walk or self-propel a manual wheelchair and who meet the additional guidelines of the program. No deposit is required. Retired/senior program The Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteers need help. This program enables the elderly to stay in their homes by assisting with daily maintenance such as shopping, medical appointments, etc. RSVP reimburses volunteers 24 cents per mile up to $20 per month and carries worker's compensation and excess auto liability on all volunteers.
