Beatty wins two tourney matches

Beatty's volleyball team won two of five matches in the Lady Trojans' invitational tournament Friday and Saturday, at Pahrump Valley High School.

Beatty's volleyball team, debuting for first-year coach Loy Koeller, won its first two matches in the Lady Trojans Invitational tournament Friday, then ran into some tough opposition to finish 2-3 in the Pahrump Valley High School-sponsored event.

The Hornets defeated the host Pahrump Valley Junior Varsity 25-21, 25-27, 15-12, and Las Vegas Calvary Chapel 26-24, 23-25, 15-4 to clinch a Pool A No. 2 seed in the Gold Division bracket tournament Saturday.

Beatty then lost 25-18, 25-21 to Lake Mead Christian Academy in the final Pool A match.

Saturday, the Hornets lost 25-4, 25-12 to Pahranagat Valley Alamo and 25-21, 15-23, 15-9 to Round Mountain in the double-elimination Gold Bracket competition.

Lake Mead won the Gold Division championship, beating Round Mountain 25-18, 25-12; Alamo, 25-19, 25-22 and Alamo again, 21-25, 21-25, 25-16, 25-18, 15-10.

On the Beatty team were Naomi Cruz, Autumn Spicer, Idhaly Flores, Nicole Stucker, Ariel Spicer, Heather Dunsterville, Kaci Schroeder, Kaitlin Ulrich, Heather Caskey, Danielle Henderson and Markie Cohan.

Round Mountain, like Beatty a member of the Southern Nevada Class A League, defeated Laughlin 25-16, 25-16; lost 25-18, 25-18 to Alamo and stopped Henderson International School 25-12, 25-15 in Pool B matches.

In the bracket tournament, the Lady Knights defeated Beatty, then lost 25-13, 21-25, 16-14 to Alamo.

Calvary Chapel won the Maroon Division title, beating Henderson International 25-20, 25-18; Pahrump Valley 25-23, 27-16 and Laughlin 25-18, 25-13, 26-24.

Round Mountain's Katrina Akers was an all-tournament team selection. Lake Mead's Ashley Newton was named most valuable player.
