Letters to the Editor
Pass forward, visionaries Well, another primary has come and gone. Doesn't seem as though much has changed, does it? During my run for office I met and talked with some great people. People who have knowledge of the politics in Pahrump and Nye County. People who have visions of what Pahrump could become. I adopted some of those visions for my campaign, although I didn't project them as forcefully as I could have. Such as, building a light industrial park anchored by Nye County Utilities and incorporating a green energy R & D center which would provide many well-paying jobs for Nye County citizens. I still believe Nye County needs this change to continue to grow and provide revenue for police, fire, health and infrastructure. As always there will be resistance to change. Let's hope the visionaries among us can continue to press forward and get these things done. I didn't win the primary -- this time. But I want to thank all of those people I met who encouraged me during my campaign. Most of all I want to sincerely thank all of you who voted for me. Thank you. ROBERT "BUTCH" DOLE Truth remains hidden I remain amazed at how the truth about Sen. Reid stays hidden. I am a whistleblower from the 1980s who has been jerked around more than once by the good senator and his people. Notably, Reid's man, Peter Arapis investigated what happened to me when I reported Ford for major contract fraud in 1988/89 on electronic combat range complexes managed by DOD. I had a stress-induced heart attack at work in 1990 and never had a day of gainful employment again. Arapis discovered that I had been unlawfully blacklisted for reporting fraud to the government and gave me a copy of the RICO statutes and told me to get them enforced. When I asked that he document what he knew about me being blacklisted, he cut off all contact; my phone calls were not returned, my letters were unanswered. Arapis now works for Ford Motor Co. -- check it out. My screwing by Reid and his people has benefited them but cost me more than $450,000 in lifetime earnings since 1990. Shame on you, "Searchlight Harry." Shame on all of your people. Shame on the media who refuse to tell the people the truth so we could remove unscrupulous politicians from office. JERRY HARVEY Regarding Zerkel's commentary Wow, you really had me going there with your rhetoric about law abiding concern for a child. Right up until you turned judgmental, using libel and slanderous allegations against a girl in the golf cart, and the two people who came to see why you verbally attacked her. That's right, tell the truth and shame the devil. It wasn't near dark yet, it was barely headed for twilight. She was on Bridger, on the correct side of the road, stopped, looking both ways for traffic. That's when you begin cussing at her and calling her names. When her two cousins came to see why on God's green earth you would attack a young girl, that you should be ashamed of yourself for attacking her, you began cussing at them as well. This cart is legal in all 50 states, only gas-powered carts have to be plated according to the Cushman Manufacturer. There are lights, a horn, brake lights, a mirror, turn signals, a caution sign on the back and it only goes 12 mph. It is a battery-operated slow-moving vehicle. It has never been modified or illegal, it came without a little sunshade roof. Everyone in the large area you mentioned knows her. As good neighbors they watch out for her whether she is on her bike or in the cart. She is an A and B student and has never been in trouble. Nor have her two cousins. You and your significant other have harassed, verbally abused and threatened your younger neighbors so much that no one wants anything to do with you. You have verbally attacked young people walking, jogging, riding bicycles. Adults seem to be safe. While you were attacking the young girls, did you also manage to get the older woman in a different golf cart who was taking her unrestrained pet for a ride? Was she a hooker too, was she a drug addict? Or was she a low-class bag lady in her getaway golf cart? How about the gentleman coming from the other end of Bridger pulling into his yard after a ride? Is he a serial killer? Foul mouth? Many victims have stated that your use of curse words is excessive and liberally used. Speedway? Your honey's red truck puts all the vehicles around here to shame, and he has nearly run several seniors off the road in his impatience. Your letter bounces from concern to paranoia -- I was shocked that as our military personnel are fighting, you would label an innocent young lady of our valley a terrorist. What kind of American are you? Then you boldly slander her that she is a drug addict or stupid? To slander her cousins, who were modestly dressed in T-shirts and shorts as whores and streetwalkers was viciously mean spirited. You do know this is the desert, right? And that T-shirts and shorts are appropriate wear, right? I have lived in this valley for 35 years, watched a lot of youngsters grow up never bothering anyone for any reason. But I've also seen a lot of so called Christian adults abuse anyone smaller or younger. Then your letter leaps to threats that if the cops don't respond to your way of thinking, you'll find someone who will. What's next, ma'am? A mob of vigilantes? A witch burning? Or maybe a good ol' fashioned hanging? The bulk of your letter, ma'am, is a classic example of how you treat young people, even though they have done nothing to you to warrant such vicious accusations. Oh, and by the way, how could you tell at that distance that the sweet innocent baby isn't a lifelike doll this youngster plays with? Do yourself and your neighbors a favor and get a hobby. Perhaps write a book; After all, you have a knack for fiction, omitting the details of your participation. Thirty-five--year resident to this neighborhood, father, uncle and grandfather to 27 Pahrump children, LAWRENCE W. HINES |
