Pahrump woman dies on Spanish Trail

TECOPA, Calif. -- A Pahrump woman was killed in a single-vehicle automobile wreck Thursday on the Old Spanish Trail in California, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Stephanie Dawn Ross, 46, was killed at a time not determined Aug. 28 when her car, a 1997 Chevy, was headed east on the highway and for an unknown reason drifted onto the north shoulder.

Ross apparently swung the wheel to return to the pavement but then turned the wheel back to the left and over-corrected.

"The overcorrection," wrote investigating Trooper R. Daharsh, "caused [her] to go into an uncontrolled counter-clockwise skid across both lanes of traffic where it overturned two times."

The car came to rest on its wheels on the north shoulder, but Ross was ejected during the rollover and sustained fatal injuries.

The car sustained major damage.
