Movies debut in Pahrump

Saddle West brings to you a new and wonderful form of entertainment: a movie theater, live and right here in Pahrump.

After many so-far unfulfilled promises by others, Saddle West stood up to the challenge of bringing a movie theater to town in partnership with Galaxy Theaters.

The grand opening took place Aug. 29 at 11 p.m. with "Babylon A.D." as the movie chosen to premier.

Despite months of advertisements, no sign of movie theaters has appeared at Terrible's Town Casino. The Pahrump Nugget has broken ground for eight theaters, but they won't be up and running until next Memorial Day.

People are already enjoying the movie experience, and as Steven and Lelia Ambrosen put it, "It's great. It is definitely better than staying home and watching the movie there."

The movie theater is located in the multipurpose room -- a bingo room in the morning -- that is transformed later each day into Pahrump's very own movie theater.

With comfortable chairs, surround sound and a great screen, the whole experience felt truly cinematic.

The main goal of the movie theater, though, is best summed up by Jack Crane, Saddle West's general manager: "We want to bring a true movie experience to the people of Pahrump. We want to make it accessible for everyone by keeping the prices inexpensive. Everyone should be able to enjoy watching movies, and that's what we are here for."

With gas prices up and exorbitant charges for tickets and concessions in the Las Vegas movie theaters, Pahrumpians will be saving tremendous amounts of money if they stay right here to go the movies.

A new first-run movie will show roughly every two weeks, in order to give everybody a chance to watch it.

Prices for adults are $8.25, $6.50 for children and seniors.

Screenings are Monday-Thursday, 4 and 7:30 p.m., Friday at 4 and 7:30 p.m. as well as at 11 p.m., Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. matinee and then at 4, 7:30 and 11 p.m., and finally Sunday at 12:30 p.m., 4 and 7:30 p.m.
