Preston Zachariah Dean Dockter born

Weighing in at six pounds, 13 ounces and at 19-3/4 inches tall is Preston Zachariah Dean Dockter, the son of Katie and the late Preston Dockter, a Pahrump Valley High School coach who died in a motorcycle accident earlier this month.

Zach was born Wednesday morning; Mom, baby and family are doing well, according to reports from the high school.

Katie is registered with Burlington Coat Factory and WalMart, should anyone wish to purchase a gift for the baby.

Dockter events

The Pahrump Valley Softball Association will hold a weekend tournament Nov. 8-9 -- at Petrack Park. Proceeds will benefit the Preston Dockter family.

The tournaments will be played in three divisions: men's, women's and co-ed. The cost is $10 per player; form a team or just go to the park to compete.

Each day's action will begin at 9 a.m. For information, contact Ken Causey at 727-6413.

Hot rods

The Preston Dockter Benefit Hot Rod and Cycle Show will be held Nov. 8 at Extreme Audio & Motor Sports, 1201 S. Highway 160 in Pahrump (across from the Saddle West). All proceeds will go to the Dockter family.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with registration from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

A raffle, barbecue and music will be featured.

Sponsors include 4 Wheel Parts, Quizno's, SoCal Speed Shop, Shadow Mountain Feed, Domino's Pizza, Las Vegas Harley Davidson, Subway, Winery, Last Chance Steakhouse and Extreme Motor Sports.

Fund-raiser

Skate Zone and the Rosemary Clarke Middle School Teacher-Student Organization will host a fundraiser Sunday at the Skate Zone on Calvada.

The program will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The cost is $6. which includes skates, laser tag and tickets for drawings for prizes.

All proceeds will go to the family of Preston Dockter.

Donation jars

The Preston, Katie and Zachariah Dockter donation fund has been established, in memory of the late Pahrump Valley High School assistant football and head fast-pitch softball coach.

There are donation jars at:

* The Rosemary Clarke Middle School front office;

* The Pahrump Valley High School athletics department office;

* At all registers are Ace Hardware, and

* At all five Horizon Markets.

Boosters

The Pahrump Valley Athletics Boosters Club will meet at 7 p.m. each Tuesday in Wulfy's banquet room.

RCMS hoops

Boys and girls interested in playing basketball at Rosemary Clarke Middle School must just have completed a physical examination by a physician to be eligible for preseason workouts.

Student-athletes must also have proof of insurance on file with the athletics director before participating. Physical forms can be picked up in the RCMS front office during school hours. Fall athletes should already have an exam form on file.

There will be a basketball camp Nov. 17-20 at RCMS. The girls' session is from 2:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. daily, with the boys participating from 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Basketball tryouts will be Dec. 1-3.

Memorial golf

A memorial golf tournament was played at the Lakeview Executive course Saturday, honoring Bob Thompson.

An investor who helped restore the executive course after it closed in 2004, Thompson will be remembered with the planting of a tree and the placement of a bench at the No. 5 hole.

There were 66 players in the tournament. Sam Rodman won the A Flight, with Mike Scott first in the B Flight. Deana Britt led the women in A Flight, with Andrea Gaspar first in B Flight.

At Petrack

Each Monday and Friday, at 8 a.m., senior softball is being played at Petrack Park. Contact Ken Causey at 727-6413 for information.
