Library fall reading program Pahrump Community Library's fall reading program, "Dino Tails," began Oct. 15. Classes are Tiny Dinos (ages 2-3), Wednesdays 9:15-9:45 a.m. (parent must accompany child); T-rex Tails (ages 4-5), Wednesdays 10-10:45 a.m.; Story Osaurus (ages 6-12), Wednesdays 3:30-4:30 p.m.; and Teens (fifth grade and up), Thursdays 3-4 p.m. There is no fee to attend the program and no prior sign up necessary. The program will run through Dec. 17 with no classes during the week of Thanksgiving. Call 727-5930, ext. 21, for more information. Legal services The Family Resource Center has partnered with Nevada Legal Services to provide low income residents with a virtual attorney service. At the Family Resource Center office, personal meetings to speak to an attorney regarding civil issues is available. Giant rummage sale Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church will hold their quarterly rummage sale 8-4 p.m. Nov. 7 and 8-1 p.m. Nov. 8 at the church, 1300 E. Highway 372. There will be clothing, household items, appliances and much more. Call 727-6767 for more information. Scout uniforms and equipment Pahrump has a number of boys ages 7-16 interested in scouting but need uniforms and gear. Donations of camping equipment and uniforms are appreciated. Pick up is available or items may be dropped at Pahrump Party Supply. AARP Driver Safety Program The AARP is offering a two-day driver safety class 9-1 p.m. Nov. 5 and 6. Parental Connection Seminar The Faith Fellowship Foursquare Church will host a parent/teen connection seminar directed to the parents of teenage and pre-teen youth. The seminar is meant to inform parents of the church youth and to impart biblical principles on raising young men and women of God. The seminar will be 9-2 p.m. Nov. 8., at the church, 921 S. Highway 160, Suite 405. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. The guest lecturer will be Pastor Greg Niemeyer who has been a youth pastor for more than 35 years and whose heart has always been serving and educating teenagers. Call 727-9183 for more information. Utilities Inc. meeting Utilities Inc. will hold an informational customer update meeting Nov. 12 in two sessions. The first session will be 10 a.m. - noon, and the second session will be 6-8 p.m. Both sessions will be held in the banquet room at Mountain Falls Grill Room. The agenda items include the summary of construction projects for 2009, an explanation of changes to the line extensions process, new customer care and billing software and an open discussion. Library calendar Free computer instruction is available for beginning-level computer users on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Sign-up in person available at the library. Classes are: "Basic Computer," "Beyond Basics," "Advanced Basics," and "Genealogy." Check at the library for dates and times. Shakespeare Made Simple will be held 10 a.m.-noon the 3rd Saturday of each month. Tuesdays 4-6 p.m., is Shakespeare Readers' Theatre. Both are free and open to all ages. Singles Club business meeting The Pahrump Singles Friendship Club will hold a business meeting and potluck at 5 p.m. Nov. 1 in the UNR Cooperative Extension building, corner of Dandelion Street and Calvada Boulevard. Thanks go out to John, Jeff, Jeanie, Frank H., Scott, Alice, Diane, Cindy, Mary, Kaitlyn, Rachel and to the lieutenant and firefighters from the Pahrump Fire Rescue Service who came to approve the pre-season burn. We couldn't have done it without you. 4-H enrollment October is open enrollment month for the UNC Cooperative Extension's Southern Nye County 4-H Club for youth ages 5-19 years old. Clogging, square dancing, cheerleading, knitting, leather craft, cooking, small engines, rock and fossils, jewelry making, quilting, reptiles, livestock, dog agility, Global Positioning Systems, dairy goat, horse, Krazy Kritters, Junior Master Gardeners and much more are offered through 4-H. Genealogical Society meets The Pahrump Genealogical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 6 in the multi-purpose room of the LDS Church, corner of Wilson Road and West Street. The business meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. with social time to follow. The program will be wedding reminiscense, wedding memorabilia (one member is bringing gowns from three generations) and wedding stories -- humorous and otherwise. This is a member-sharing program. Woodworker's Guild The Pahrump Valley Woodworker's Guild is inviting anyone interested to their first meeting to be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 11. The community service club will have emphasis on woodworking and provide a forum for all skill levels to discuss and share information about woodworking. VFW in November The VFW hosts a swap meet the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month 7-3 p.m. on the VFW grounds. Reservations for a spot are $7 if you bring your own table and $10 if you rent one from the VFW. There is free parking and the Snacks by Hilda will serve up the hotdogs and chips for $1.50. Notice to veterans Those serving in the military from April 6, 1917, to the present have an office in Pahrump and Tonopah to take advantage of earned military benefits including: compensation, pension, education and death and burial benefits. The Pahrump office is located in JobConnect in the Calvada Eye, Building A. The Tonopah office is located in the Nye Regional Medical Center on Main Street. Ken Shockley and his staff work full time to assist in doing all they can to help veterans take advantage of their earned benefits. The hours are 8-05 p.m. at the office locations or call 537-2323. Those unable to come to the office may get a home visit to get the ball rolling. New veteran's hospital video There will be a video presentation concerning the new veteran's hospital under construction in Las Vegas at 11 a.m. Oct. 29 at the VFW, 4651 Homestead Road. All veterans and their spouses are invited.
