Candidates report contributions

Nevada District 36 Assemblyman Ed Goedhart, R-Amargosa Valley, reported a total of over $62,000 in campaign contributions and expenses this year in his bid for re-election, according to reports due Tuesday. Goedhart's contributions are 17 times those of his opponent, Democrat Scotty Babb, who reported $3,547 in contributions this year and $3,342 in expenses. In the latest reporting period since before the Aug. 15 primary, Goedhart lists contributions of $3,000 from Boyd Gaming; $2,500 each from the MGM Mirage and the Southpoint Casino; $1,500 apiece from the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce and Dennis and Joanne Cawrse from Reese River Valley. Goedhart received $1,000 apiece from Wal-Mart, R and S Investment Properties, Vidler Water Co. Inc., Nevada Land and Resource LLC, state Sen. Mike McGinness' Campaign Fund, Walgreens, the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers, Corrections Corporation of America, Hollis Harris Realty, the Associated General Contractors PAC, Nevada Power Company and the Pahrump Valley Republican Women. During the first reporting period, Goedhart listed a $5,000 contribution from Pacific Recycling Solutions Inc. of Lakeport, Calif.; $3,000 from Li Chu Chang Mok of Plano, Tex.; $2,500 from three political action committees affiliated with the Focus Property Group; $2,500 from the Associated General Contractors; $1,500 from the Clark and Nye County Development Corp., affiliated with developer Hans Seibt; and $1,000 donations from the Hughes Corp., Snell and Wilmer LLP in Phoenix, the Las Vegas Sands, the Home Building Industry Political Action Committee, the NBA Bank PAC, Farmers Employee Agent PAC, Nevada Realtors and Keystone. Goedhart spent $22,188 just in the reporting period since the primary with the Nevada Elect consulting firm. Babb doesn't list any contributions over $100 this reporting period, which have to be itemized. His only expense listed was a $395 payment to Channel 30/The Mojave News. * In the 5th District judge's race, incumbent John Davis lists a total of $23,050 in contributions to Marla Zlotek's $16,104. Davis spent $21,916 while Zlotek lists $16.082 in expenses. Davis lists a $5,000 contribution from Round Mountain Gold Corp. in the latest report since Aug. 5, $1,000 from Plumbers and Pipefitters and $500 from lawyer Todd Levanthal, the Esmeralda County district attorney. Davis spent $3,502 with the Pahrump Valley Times on advertising since the latest report due Aug. 5, $1,290 with the Mineral County Independent, $1,197 with the Tonopah Times-Bonanza, $2,885 with KPVM-TV, $960 with the Pahrump Mirror and $595 with "Pahrump Media." Zlotek, who pledged in her campaign she wouldn't accept any contributions, spent $3,770 in the latest reporting period. Zlotek spent $2,209 on Pahrump Valley Times advertising, $784 with the Pahrump Mirror, $250 with KPVM-TV and $110 with Spotlight on Pahrump. * Nye County Commission District 1 candidate Lorinda Wichman collected $47,384 in contributions and spent $47,988 on the campaign this year. Her opponent, Rob Mobley, is funding his own campaign; he reported $8,843 in expenses, less than a fifth of Wichman's spending. Wichman lists $5,000 in contributions from two political action committees linked to the Focus Property Group and $1,000 from their law firm, during the latest report. Her employer, Round Mountain Gold Corp., donated $5,000; Bill Wahl, owner of International Mining Ventures in Amargosa Valley donated $4,000. She also lists $1,000 donations each from Hollis Harris, the Board of Realtors Political Action Committee and the Pahrump Valley Repulican Women. Wichman spent $8,953 on consultant Cora Bishop, $4,404 with Your Ad Solution of Amargosa Valley, $2,003 with Diversified Electronics in Tonopah, $1,600 with KNYE radio, $1,050 with the Pahrump Fall Festival committee, $1,000 with Paul Willis, $945 with KIBS radio in Bishop, Calif., $799 with the Pahrump Valley Times and $525 with Pahrump Media Group. During the first campaign expense report due Aug. 5, Wichman reported donations of $2,000 from Mid-Valley Enterprises, owners of Sheri's Ranch; $500 from Bobbi Davis, owner of the Shady Lady Ranch; $1,550 from Assemblyman Ed Goedhart; $2,500 from Pacific Recycling Solutions in Lakeport, Calif.; $1,000 from mine owner Bill Wahl in Amargosa Valley and $1,000 from Pahrump developer Brock Metzka. Mobley spent $3,537 on advertising with the Pahrump Valley Times since the primary and $1,350 with KNYE radio. * Gary Hollis, who is running for re-election to Nye County Commission District 3, lists a total of $38,217 in contributions since Jan. 1 and $40,281 in expenses. In the latest reporting period since the primary, Hollis lists $1,030 from David Woo of Las Vegas; $1,000 from the law firm of Kummer, Kaempfer, Bonner, Renshaw and Ferrario, which represents Focus Property Group; $1,000 from Front Sight Firearms Training Academy; $1,000 from Nye County Republican Party Chairman Fely Quitevis and $1,000 from the Pahrump Valley Republican Women. He also lists $500 from RAB Inc. of Las Vegas. Hollis also received $3,000 in in-kind contributions from Ron Murphy Construction for three months' rent of a billboard on Highway 160. Hollis paid Cora Bishop $14,011 for his campaign since the primary. His latest report lists another $755 in payments to the Pahrump Valley Republican Women's Club. During the first reporting period due Aug. 5, Hollis reported a $5,000 contribution from dermatologist Dr. Jeffrey Gunter; $3,000 from four limited liability corporations with an address of 3875 S. Jones Blvd. in Las Vegas; $2,000 from Clark and Nye County Development Corp., affiliated with developer Hans Seibt; $2,000 from Thousandaire 80 LLC; $2,000 from Yulupa Investments LLC of Lakeport, Calif.; $1,000 each from Hollis Harris, Mid-Valley Enterprises, owner of Sheri's Ranch, and M3 Planning and Consulting Group LLC owned by Curt Moen. Ron Murphy made an in-kind contribution of $4,000 the first reporting period. Hollis' opponent, Harley Kulkin, reported $16,507 in contributions this year, of which $15,321 came from himself. Kulkin lists $10,510 spent on his attorney, Jason Bach, who defended him on his residency case, during the latest reporting period. He spent another $2,165 with J.P. Designs of Pahrump, spent $751 on campaign advertising with an Omaha, Neb., company, $480 with the Pahrump Valley Times and $300 with Pat and Bill Garlough. * Nye County Commission District 2 incumbent Joni Eastley lists $19,700 in contributions this year, with $14,393 in expenditures. Eastley reported a $5,000 contribution from Round Mountain Gold, $1,000 from Kummer, Kaempfer, Bonner and Ferrario, the law firm representing Focus Property Group, and $1,000 from the Republican Women. During the latest reporting period, Eastley spent $3,425 with KPVM-TV, $2,000 on Denise Nelson of Tonopah, $1,353 on Pahrump Valley Times advertising, $1,040 with the Tonopah Times-Bonanza, $1,152 with KIBS/KBOV radio in Bishop, Calif., and $1,972 with Your Ad Solutions, among other expenses. Her opponent, Jim Petell, reported no contributions and $100 in expenditures to Two Guys Media. * Pahrump Justice of the Peace candidate Kent Jasperson reported $15,702 in contributions this year and spent $14,772 on the campaign. In the latest reporting period from Aug. 5 to Oct. 28, Jasperson lists contributions of $1,000 each from the Gibson and Kuehn law firm which has the public defender contract, Erik Nielson of Las Vegas and Nevada Development Services. He received another $800 from Creekside Investments of Pahrump, $700 from himself and $500 apiece from Hollis Harris Realty and U.K. America Corp. of Las Vegas. On the expense side, Jasperson spent $1,100 on his wife Donna Jasperson, $1,300 with KNYE-FM, $828 with High Impact Signs, $600 with the Pahrump Valley Times and $550 with KPVM-TV. His opponent, Linda DeMeo, reported $22,032 in donations this year and $22,074 in expenses. DeMeo lists a $1,000 contribution from Dr. Frank Toppo, $1,200 from Paul Fernandez of Staten Island, N.Y., and $1,000 from Patricia Bain of Pahrump as her larger donors. DeMeo spent $2,155 with KPVM-TV, $1,624 with National Pen of Detroit, $1,184 with the Pahrump Valley Times, $1,300 with KNYE-FM and $1,339 with High Impact Signs during the latest reporting period. * Peter Liakopoulos, a District 5 Nye County commissioner who isn't up for reelection this year, filed a campaign contribution report listing a $5,000 contribution from Crystal brothel owner Joe Richards and $2,000 from George Flint, president of the Nevada Brothel Association. |
