America's real estate market is in the pits right now with Pahrump being no different.

So, Fely Quitevis, owner of Precious Properties Inc., one of the original realtors in the valley, decided to diversify and add a beauty salon and spa to her business assets.

Precious Looks is located at 1330 S. Highway 160, Building 3A, and provides specialties designed to help men and women look good.

Quitevis said, "I thought about it for a long time and spent hours observing other salons. I decided it was a good business to get into because everyone needs to have their hair done. I enjoy talking to people also. I don't think the economy will have any impact on the salon."

The salon opened in September. All employees are local -- six hair stylists and three nail specialists. Quitevis added, "I am also expanding to include tanning beds, facials, massage (in two weeks), aromatherapy and possibly more as time goes on. There is a lot of talent here."

Combined experience level in the salon is over 100 years and men as well as women are employed.

Specialty services include hair extensions, replacement, and coloring, which have their own prices due to the time involved. Haircuts are $18, a cut and style is $25, and men's haircuts are $12.

Quitevis commented that it "takes talent and passion to do beauty."

Cindy Moody, nail specialist, said, "It's great here. There are a lot of good people, good atmosphere, and great talent. All the girls work as a team. Fely is a good owner. She spends time and effort and keeps it clean. Be precious to yourself and see Precious Looks."

Brianna Leckey, a salon customer, said "It's just like a home environment. Everyone is friendly and gives great service. I love what I've received in service, great work."

Susan Gray, customer of Moody's said, "I'm glad to have found Cindy, she gives a great nail job."

"If you want to be a salon owner or any business owner, study the business, know it in and out and talk to those in your area of interest," Quitevis said.

She's is right about one thing: We all have to maintain our physical appearance.
