Shoshone hosts Old West Days Oct. 31-Nov. 2

SHOSHONE -- Every year Shoshone Village celebrates the heritage of the community by gathering together enthusiasts of western history and culture for a fun-filled weekend.

During the same period, the Desert Arts Council sponsors the Fall Desert Art and Crafts Show.

This year, the simultaneous events will be Oct. 31, Nov. 1-2.

The festivities will start Friday with the opening of the art and crafts show in the Flower Building at noon. The show will close at 5 p.m. just in time for the start of Shoshone Old West Days at 5:30 p.m. with storytelling and a reception at the Shoshone Museum.

Saturday, the art and crafts show will open at 9 a.m. and the live entertainment provided by the Silver Tappers, Whitehorse, High Desert Line Dancers and the Street Corner Blues Project begins at 11 a.m.

Susan Sorrells will lead a personal two-hour walking tour of Shoshone Village starting at 9 a.m. Those taking the tour will meet at the Shoshone Museum.

There will be deep-pit barbecue available from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The art and crafts show closes at 5.

Beginning at 1:30 p.m., a series of storytellers and local historians will give a series of talks on the area's history. Every half hour, a new speaker takes the podium. The talks will end around 4 p.m.

Sunday, the museum will host a speakers and authors book signing starting at 10 a.m. and ending at noon.

The art and crafts show opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 3.

Shoshone is 23 miles from Pahrump. Take Highway 372 west. The highway route number changes to 127 at the California line and continues to the intersection of Highway 373 at the Shoshone Village.
