Republicans still hold an edge in Nye County with 10,800 registered voters to 9,535 Democrats, according to the latest figures at the close of registration Tuesday.

The edge of 1,265 more registered voters is slightly narrower than the Republican advantage of 1,353 voters in July 2006, when the GOP had the edge 9,075 to 7,722.

Democrats led in registration totals in only six of the 33 county precincts.

Another 3,685 voters described themselves as non-partisan, up from 2,876 in 2006.

The remainder of Nye County's voters includes 1,379 members of the Independent American Party, 180 Libertarians, 34 Green Party members, 14 Natural Law Party members, four Reform Party members and 26 who fit into the "other" category.

Pahrump has 19,795 of the county's 25,657 voters, or 77 percent of the total. The total figures include 24,927 active and 730 inactive voters.

Nye County planners estimate the county's population as of June 30 at 46,755. The figures indicate 54.8 percent of them are registered to vote in the Nov. 4 general election.
