There is no reason not to vote
Each day that passes brings us closer to the election. Due to the fact this is a national election and our country is in such turmoil, county employees are predicting record turn-outs this election year. There is absolutely no reason not to vote. Absentee ballots, early voting with varied days and hours to accommodate your schedule, along with the traditional ability to vote on the first Tuesday of November, give ample opportunity for you to vote. I'm frustrated with folks that say, "I'm so confused with all the negative ads, accusations, and charges against both candidates, I don't know who to vote for, and so I'm not going to vote." Honestly, this irritates me to no end. A lot of American blood has been shed to give and protect your rights and freedoms, one of which is the right to vote. Ignore the hype and accusations, cast your vote based on the candidate whose plans, platform and solutions to the problems facing our country, agree with your thoughts and ideas. Mud slinging and lies are the norm these days in the political arena, don't pay attention to it. It's easy, just get off the sofa and go vote. Thinking your vote won't count is also a cop out. Listen, we have to believe in something, let's start believing in the system and that your vote will count. Please exercise your right to vote. If you don't vote, you're wasting your breath by complaining about the state of affairs in this country, and I for one don't want to hear it. This section profiles candidates in Nye County and the state of Nevada. We publish the "Election" section to help you obtain the information you need to make your decision on the local and state candidates for whom you will be voting. If you are interested in early voting you may do so at the Nye County Government Complex located at 1520 E. Basin Ave. in Pahrump. Early voting for Tonopah and surrounding areas will be held at the Nye County Clerk's Office, located in the Courthouse at 101 Radar Road in Tonopah. Early voting in Pahrump starts Saturday, Oct. 18 through Wednesday, Oct. 29. Poll hours are 10 a.m. through 6 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and weekdays through Oct. 29. Early voting in Tonopah starts Saturday, Oct. 18 and ends Friday, Oct. 31. Poll hours are 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 25.
