John F. Babcock Sr.

John F. Babcock Sr., 71, passed away Oct. 8, 2008, at home in Pahrump.

He was born Oct. 29, 1936, in Mauston, Wis., and was a resident of Pahrump for 12 years, having come from Watertown, Wis.

He was a jack of all trades and retired in 2000.

He was a member of Saved by Grace Lutheran Church.

He is survived by sons Gary Babcock of Bullhead City, Ariz., John (Chris) Babcock Jr. of Milwaukee, Wis., Frederick (Patti) Babcock of Reeseville, Wis., and Edward Babcock of Pahrump; daughters Ruthann (D'arcy) Lamke of New Mexico, Debbie (Tim) Finn of Watertown, Carrie Aagaard of Highland, Ill., and Shelia (Herb) Winn of Pahrump; 29 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 50 years, four sisters and one grandson.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice. (10/08/2008)

Thomas L. MacAdam

Pastor Thomas L. MacAdam passed away Oct. 9, 2008, in Pahrump.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 18 in the multi-purpose room at Mt. Charleston Elementary. (10/09/2008)




Dewey Sorenson

Dewey "the duck" Sorenson, 69, passed away suddenly Oct. 8, 2008, at home. The love of his life, Carolyn Blitch was by his side.

He was born Oct. 29, 1938, in South Gate, Calif., and was a resident of Pahrump for three years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force at Nellis Air Force Base and was retired from the Bakersfield, Calif. school district.

He was a member of the Plumbers Union No. 460 and the Masonic Temple in Bakersfield and was proudly employed by Home Depot here.

He was a member of the Pahrump Senior Center.

His daughters Dwana Sorrenson and Heather Dardin; sons Dewey Sorenson Jr. and James Sorenson; brothers Jack Alyn Sorenson and James Sorenson, both of Pahrump; five grandchildren and many cousins survive him.

In honoring his request, there will be no formal service. Friends and family will gather to celebrate his life 2-6 p.m. Oct. 18, in the home of Niles and Anita Hull, 890 W. Jarvis Road. (10/08/2008)

Lorna Evelyn Dismukes

Lorna Evelyn Dismukes, 87, died Sept. 15, 2008, in Hemet, Calif.

She was born in Fairland, Okla.

At 17 her parents, two brothers and a sister moved to California where she graduated from Fullerton High School. After graduation she went to work for U.S. Rubber as a secretary where she met her future husband, Stanley White.

They were married in November 1941. Stanley joined the Army in 1942, and was overseas for four years.

When her husband returned after the war was over, they made their home in La Habra, Calif., where they started a family. Together they raised three children.

Lorna was a devout Lutheran all her life and taught Sunday school for many years.

After Stanley died, Lorna married longtime friend, Sam Dismukes. She went to live with him in La Puente, Calif.

In 1982 they moved to Pahrump and quickly noted the need for a Lutheran church in the Pahrump Valley.

In early 1983, they contacted Pastor John Jaster in Las Vegas and Shepherd of the Valley Church was organized.

In 2002, after Sam passed away, she moved back to Hemet.

She will be missed and remembered with love by many she has left behind.

Her sons, Wesley (Donna) White of Murrieta, Calif., Bill (DJ) White of Pahrump; daughter Lorene (Kevin) Andersen of Van Buren, Alaska; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers Milton (Margie) Mueller of La Habra and Lawrence (Jeanette) Mueller of Ridgefield, Wash.; sister Irene Vroman, of Arroyo Grande, Calif., and nieces, nephews and cousins survive him.

Services were held 11:00 a.m. Sept. 22, at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier. (09/15/2008)

Ronald William Johnson

Ronald William Johnson, 67, passed away Oct. 3, 2008, in Las Vegas.

He was born Nov. 30, 1940, in Whittier, Calif.

He had an associates degree from San Bernardino Valley College and was a graduate of National Fire Science Academy in Virginia. He also had numerous specialized public safety accreditations.

He was of the Christian faith and a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.

His wife Mira Jane Johnson of Pahrump; daughters Susan (Ed) Hendrix and Sandy (Tim) Owens both of Riverside, Calif.; brother Dennis (Bridgitte) Johnson; sister Cheryl Edge of California; three grandchildren, AJ, Michael and Taylor; five nieces and nephews and seven cousins survive him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Betty and Cecil Johnson.

A celebration of life was held Oct. 7 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.
