New veteran's hospital video

There will be a video presentation concerning the new veteran's hospital under construction in Las Vegas at 11 a.m. Oct. 29 at the VFW, 4651 Homestead Road.

All veterans and their spouses are invited.

Missoula Children's Theatre

The Missoula Children's Theatre production of "Rumplestilskin" will be 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Oct. 11 in the cafetorium at Rosemary Clarke. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults.

Weight loss seminar

There will be three speakers presenting "Finding the Pieces to Facilitate Successful Weight Loss," unique and effective approaches to weight loss 6-8 p.m. Oct. 26 in the clubhouse of the Pahrump RV Park behind the Best Western.

Senior trip to Laughlin

The Pahrump Senior Center will host a bus trip to Laughlin Oct. 15. The bus will leave the VFW on Homestead Road at 8 a.m. and arrive at Edgewater Casino at 11 a.m.

Participants will receive a voucher for a free lunch buffet. There is a shopping outlet and a movie theater across the street.

The return trip will leave the casino at 5 p.m. and arrive at the VFW at 8 p.m.

Reservations must be made and paid by Oct. 13. The cost is $20.

Library fall reading program

Pahrump Community Library's fall reading program, "Dino Tails," will begin Oct. 15.

Classes are Tiny Dinos (ages 2-3), Wednesdays 9:15-9:45 a.m. (parent must accompany child); T-rex Tails (ages 4-5), Wednesdays 10-10:45 a.m.; Story Osaurus (ages 6-12), Wednesdays 3:30-4:30 p.m.; and Teens (fifth grade and up), Thursdays 3-4 p.m.

There is no fee to attend the program and no prior sign up necessary.

The program will run through Dec. 17 with no classes during the week of Thanksgiving.

Revival at Petrack Park

There will be a Pahrump Tent Revival Oct. 11-19 in Petrack Park.

Garden clean-up day at elementary

The "Desert Garden Clean-up Day" for the garden area adjacent to the soccer field at Mt. Charleston Elementary School will be 8 a.m. - noon, Oct. 11, 1521 E. Idaho St.

Volunteers may sign up in the office or e-mail hfreeman@nye.k12.nv.us.

Wear weed-proof clothing and bring gloves, a rake or a weeding hoe.

If someone has a bobcat front-end loader to smooth out the area, contact 727-7892 and let the school know.

The fire department will be on hand for an approved and supervised burn.

The Pahrump Valley Times will list "Halloween Houses" and events and safe houses open to the public for the holiday.

Girl Scouts Halloween party

Pahrump Girl Scout Troop No. 315 will host a Halloween party 2-4 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

The cost is $8 for registered Girl Scouts and includes a patch.

Girls must dress in Halloween costumes or Girl Scout uniforms.

There will be snacks, drinks and candy.

Reid visits

U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., will be in Pahrump at 10 a.m. Wednesday for an energy town hall meeting at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Senator Reid will discuss Nevada's leading role in renewable energy, including Nye County. He will talk about the investment tax credits just approved for renewable energy, as part of the bailout bill signed into law by President Bush last Friday, Oct. 3.

Candidates night

There will be a candidates "Meet and Greet" at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Artesia Community Center, 6601 S. Fox Blvd., corner of Kellogg Road and Fox Boulevard.

Meet and greet Marla Zlotek

There will be two "Meet and Greet" forums held for Marla Zloteck, candidate for 5th Judicial District Court, Dept. I.

The first will be 1-4 p.m. Oct. 12 at K-9 Kastle Bed and Bone, 6091 Gills Way.

Free ice cream sundaes will be served.

The second will be 1-4 p.m. Oct. 26 at Gamebird Plaza, corner of Gamebird Road and Pahrump Valley Boulevard. Free hot dogs and hamburgers will be available.

PTSA program on drug abuse

There will be a presentation on drug abuse prevention by the Pahrump Valley High School PTSA in honor of "Red Ribbon Week" at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 20 in the freshman building at the high school.

Parents, students and teachers will have the opportunity to see youth-performed education in an engaging format.

Parent Teacher Student Association meetings are open to all parents and guardians of high school students.

Regular meetings are the third Monday of every month during the school year.

The Pahrump Valley Rough Riders Gymkhana horse show will be Oct. 18.

PVHS Tailgate Party

The Pahrump Valley High School Booster Club will sponsor a tailgate party for the Homecoming Game on Friday night.

The party will begin at 6 p.m. in the parking lot near the concession stand.

Parking is free.

Bring food or purchase concessions from the Booster Club.

There will be a rock-climbing wall, face painting and the marching band will perform.

Show Trojan spirit by wearing maroon and gold. T-shirts, sweatshirts and blankets will be available for purchase.

The First Southern Baptist Church will hold their annual Fall Festival for boys and girls ages 2 to fifth grade, 6-9 p.m. Oct. 31 at the church, 741 E. Fehrs Way, corner of Highway 160 and Fehrs Way.
