Rockin' Roy's Diner evokes an era before the Internet and iPods.

Take me back to the 1950s -- the time when classic Chevys, poodle skirts, women with long hair or French rolls and Elvis haircuts for men were all the rage.

This is what Rockin' Roy's 50's Diner does when you walk in the door. You instantly step back 58 years and feel as if it's a good day to drive your 1955 Thunderbird over to the diner and put some quarters in the juke box.

Located at 1700 S. Pahrump Valley Blvd., this unique diner is named after Russ Rodger's father, Roy H. Rodgers.

Now 82 years young, Roy grew up during the 1950s and could tell you a story or two for sure. When he entered the diner for the first time, Russ said "He just beamed with happiness and pride. It was great seeing the look on his face."

The music is fed from a good reproduction of an old juke box (if you don't know what that is, just go to the Internet and Google it) in the corner and of course it's 1950s' music.

Elvis, Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, Patti Page and many more, were the hottest singers around. There are 45 records on the wall with names such as "The Witch Doctor" and "Love Potion #9."

Oh, by the way, did I mention the food is good?

Well, it is and is 95 percent hamburgers on the menu with names like John Wayne, Elvis Presley and Lucille Ball. There are some other items like veggie burgers and chicken fingers and such. Root beer floats and chocolate sundaes are also available.

Some of the stars pictured on the walls include Wayne, Elvis (of course), Ball, Richard Widmeyer, James Dean with the car he died in, Marilyn Monroe, and many more. Even some of the old television commercials (Ivory soap) and road maps (Los Angeles area) are displayed.

Rodgers said, "I tried having fish and chips in the restaurant but it just wasn't profitable. So I decided to appeal to more seniors of the era. Hopefully, it will be better. I wanted to appeal to a different clientele. Retirees love to reminisce about 'back then,' so I thought the diner would be perfect.

"I love Americana; items from times gone by when America produced American products. A time when things were simpler and kids were taught there are consequences to their actions."

Rodgers wants to entertain customers as well as feed them. The lunch hours are really busy so plan ahead. Take-out orders can also be called in.

"Everyone from 15 to 85 can enjoy the atmosphere. We've received rave reviews about the food," said Rodgers.

Check it out. See the pictures of the old classic cars (even local classics are shown). Take a time warp to the past.

Rodgers said, "Come on in and get a taste of the past on more than one level; music, atmosphere, and good food."
