LAS VEGAS -- Patrick Putnam has been appointed the manager of the new Pahrump Field Office for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the BLM announced in a prepared statement.

The BLM began a reorganization structure yesterday with a new three-tiered system. The Las Vegas BLM field office will reorganize as the Southern Nevada District Office and will be geographically divided into three regional field offices which will initially be co-located in Las Vegas at the District Office at 4701 N. Torrey Pines Drive.

There are three new field offices in southern Nevada, including the Pahrump Field Office, which includes BLM managed public lands in Nye County south of Beatty as well as a point of contact for the Nevada Test Site and Nellis and Creech Air Force bases.

Putnam, who will manage the Pahrump BLM field office, was most recently the assistant field manager for recreation and renewable resources for the BLM Las Vegas Field Office and managed range, wild horses and burros, air, water and soil issues, archaeology, emergency stabilization and restoration, fuels reduction and restoration, botany, special status species; the noxious weed program and riparian programs.

Putnam was recently at the BLM Lake Havasu (Ariz.) Field Office on a detail as field manager and completed the Leadership Academy, a year-long intensive training for future BLM leaders.

Putnam has worked for the BLM since 2000 as a supervisory natural resource specialist, lead outdoor recreation planner, natural resource specialist and back country ranger.

Putnam owned his own business, Rocks and Ropes Inc., for four years. He has a bachelor's degree in zoology from Northern Arizona University.

The Pahrump Field Office will be immediately staffed with seven positions. In addition to Putnam, the employees will include realty specialist Wendy Sealy, geologist Dave Fanning, archaeologist Kathleen Sprowl, wildlife biologist Jayson Barangan, wild horse and burro specialist Jerrie Bertola and wild horse and burro contractor Krystal Johnson.
