Don't reward mediocrity, says Ault

RENO -- Nevada coach Chris Ault says football teams with lackluster seasons aren't bowl game material.

The Wolf Pack on Saturday travels to Louisiana to take on Louisiana Tech. A loss would leave Nevada with a 6-6 season.

Even so, Nevada could still get a bowl invitation. But Ault tells the Reno Gazette-Journal he'd recommend declining the offer under such a scenario.

Doing otherwise, he says, ``rewards mediocrity.''

Nevada made it to the New Mexico Bowl last year, despite a 6-6 season, and lost 23-0 to New Mexico, another Western Athletic Conference team.

Given a similar season record this year, any potential option for Nevada would not involve a WAC-affiliated bowl.
