Sandbaggers brings miniature golf to Pahrump
How many times have you heard a resident say, "There's nothing to do in Pahrump?" Well, Steve Bourque was one of those residents, but he decided to do something about it. With a love of miniature golf and experience as both a food and business consultant, he decided to open a golf course, minus the food (except catering is available). The grand opening of Sandbaggers was held Nov. 22.

Floyd prelim ends; jury trial to follow?
Christopher Floyd, who remains in custody on $2 million bail on a criminal complaint filed by the state containing 47 allegations of sexual misconduct against minor boys, appeared in Justice Court Thursday and Friday as his preliminary hearing drew to a close.

Holiday Lights Christmas Parade
For the second year in a row, Dan Schinhofen of Spotlight on Pahrump and the VFW Post 10056 are sponsoring the Holiday Lights Christmas Parade.

Home Depot lifts tax receipts
Nye County taxable sales rose 2 percent in September 2008 compared to the year before, a rise that could be attributable to the new Home Depot store in Pahrump that opened Aug. 13.

D.A.R.E. plans graduation celebrations
Nye County Sheriff Anthony DeMeo announced the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) graduation celebration for the fifth-grade J.G. Johnson Elementary and Floyd Elementary students who have successfully completed their 10-week D.A.R.E. Program.

Shooting range opens
A shooting range opened this month in Pahrump -- finally.

How to get to the range?
The Lone Wolf Shooters Range is located on private property just south of Gamebird Road. It can be found by turning east on Crazyhorse Street, a graded gravel road, and following the red arrows. A key is required to unlock the gate and drive into the facility.

Liakopoulos endured stormy term on commission
Nye County District 5 Commissioner Peter Liakpoulos had a turbulent two years in office that began soon after he was sworn in Dec. 19, 2006.

Community assistance

County concerned over future of millions in PETT program
Nye County commissioners Monday voted to approve an annual $11.5 million contract to renew the payment equal to taxes, or PETT, received from the U.S. Department of Energy for the property value of Yucca Mountain.
