Key prep football games on slate Friday

If you like high school football game and you live in the greater Las Vegas area, this will be a weekend to remember.

Friday night's games include the Class 4-A Sunset and Sunrise Regional title matchups: Bishop Gorman at Palo Verde and Del Sol at Las Vegas.

On Saturday at Arbor View High School, three small-school Nevada championships will be at stake.

* At noon, defending champion Tonopah plays Pahranagat Valley Alamo for the Class A Eight-Man crown; (see related stories this page)

* At 3 p.m., it's 2-A powers Las Vegas The Meadows and Pershing County Lovelock colliding.

* At 6, defending champion Overton Moapa Valley will face Truckee, Calif., for the 3-A championship.

If you are in the Reno area Friday, the 4-A semifinals are schedule: Sparks Reed at Reno McQueen and Reno Damonte Ranch at Bishop Manogue.

The 4-A tournament continues the weekend of Nov. 28-29, with state semifinals slated in Reno and in Las Vegas.

The state title game is Dec. 6 at Mackay Stadium on the University of Nevada Reno campus.

Last weekend, Palo Verde advanced with a 35-21 win against Cimarron-Memorial, while Gorman survived a 37-36 shootout against Cheyenne.

Manogue trounced Reno 48-6, Damonte Ranch edged Hug 9-7, Reed outscored Douglas Minden 44-24 and McQueen crushed Galena 56-16.

In Class 3-A, Moapa Valley defeated Fernley 35-7 and by the same score, Truckee eliminated Virgin Valley.

In Class 2-A, it was the Meadows 23, Battle Mountain 14 and Lovelock 28, Las Vegas Mountain View Christian 22.

All of the other fall sports are now finished.

* Las Vegas downed Galena 4-2 in the Class 4-A boys soccer finals;

* Truckee defeated Faith Lutheran in the 3-A finals, the boys prevailing 2-0 and the girls winning 5-3.

* Lake Mead Christian Academy (Class A), Zephyr Cove Whittell (2-A), Yerington (3-A) and Bishop Manogue (4-A) claimed volleyball championships.
