Family movie night

The Amargosa Friends of the Library will sponsor a family movie night at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 21 in the Amargosa Community Center.

The movie is Walt Disney's "Wall-E."

The doors open at 6 p.m. and admission is $1. Pizza, chili, hotdogs, nachos, popcorn, candy and sodas will be for sale.

Pahrump Express bus

Regent Holidays is sponsoring a bus to transport any Pahrump residents who want to comment on their application for an amended permit to resume Pahrump to Las Vegas bus service before the Nevada Transportation Authority.

The 55-passenger bus will leave at 8 a.m. Nov. 20 from the Pahrump Nugget parking lot. Transportation is free to the hearing which begins at 10 a.m., though the Regent Holidays item is expected to be at the end of the agenda.

The bus will transport people interested in testifying to the hearing which will take place at 2920 S. Jones Blvd. in Las Vegas.

Seniors weekend trip to Arizona

The Pahrump Senior Center will sponsor another bus trip Dec. 6 and 7 to Lake Havasu, Ariz., for the Parade of Lights.

The ticket price is $135 per person and includes a one-night stay at Quality Inn, Lake Havasu, a complimentary breakfast and the Parade of Lights buffet.

On the menu will be chicken marsala with crimini mushrooms, London broil with green peppercorn sauce, Parmesan-chive mashed potatoes, braised winter vegetables, mixed green salad, roll and butter, assorted desserts, water, iced tea or coffee and hot chocolate for the boat parade.

The bus will depart from the VFW on Homestead Road at 8 a.m. Dec. 6 and arrive at 11 a.m. in Lake Havasu (Mountain Standard Time). The return trip leaves Lake Havasu at noon on Dec. 7 and arrives at the VFW at 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

Reservations are necessary and are based on double occupancy. They must be made and paid no later than Dec. 3.

Computer User's Group meets

The Pahrump Computer User's Group will meet at 1 p.m. Dec. 1 in the large meeting room of the Pahrump Community Library.

The program will be "How to Manage Files and Folders in Windows Vista," by Don Norvell and Mike Erwin will discuss "New and Improved Computer Technology in the Past and Advancements on the Horizon."

Park in the rear of the library where there is ample space.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

PAC youth gift-making class

The Pahrump Arts Council will present a free "Art for Young People" Christmas gift-making class 11-1 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Pahrump Valley Museum.

The class is for youth ages 8 and up, who must be pre-registered and signed in and out by a parent or guardian.

Carol's polymer clay class will be for votive candle holders decorated with beads and Renee will teach design and make bracelets and/or necklaces using multi-colored glass chips and Swarovski crystals.

Last flu clinic

Festival of Trees

The Nathan Adelson Hospice will hold the fourth annual Festival of Trees fundraiser Nov. 23 and Dec. 5 at the Pahrump Nugget.

The tree and wreath decorating party will take place Nov. 23 in the casino lounge.

The Festival of Trees Gala will be Dec. 5 and will feature a black-tie-optional live auction of the trees with profession auctioneer, Ski Censki.

A no-host cocktail bar will be available.

A silent auction and a raffle of three top-end prizes will conclude with a sit-down dinner including Pahrump Valley Winery wines, compliments of Bill and Gretchen Loken.

Entertainment will be provided by Open Road and Master of Ceremonies Dan Rodriguez.

'Saddle Bag Santa' trail rides

The Rising Star Equestrian Association will sponsor "Saddle Bag Santa" trail rides to raise funds for Toys for Tots.

The rides are scheduled for Nov. 29, Dec. 7 and Dec. 13.

The fee is $25 per rider and a barbecue is included.

Shepherd of the Valley Church will host a fifth Sunday Sing at 6 p.m. Nov. 30 in the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Soroptimist awards

The Soroptimist International Pahrump Valley is looking for qualified candidates who meet the criteria to receive two awards.

For the Violet Richardson Award: Candidates must be girls between the ages of 14 and 17 and actively volunteering and giving back to the community.

The award is a monetary gift and a matching donation will go to her charitable organization of choice.

The Women's Opportunity Award: Candidate must be a woman who is the main financial provider for her family. She must be continuing her education through an undergraduate or vocational/trade school program and she must have a financial need.

Applications for both awards are available at American Family Insurance, 250 S. Highway 160, Suite B-8.

The deadline for applications is Dec. 1.
