Pahrump Valley Computers is new to the neighborhood but not to computer foibles and issues.

Daniel Wiess has been using computers since he was 8 and started working on them at 16 (that wasn't all that long ago). Located at 111 S. Frontage Road, No. 10, the shop was given a facelift and so far business is easy to compute.

Wiess started his business in Las Vegas and decided to expand to the Pahrump Valley because he found that there is a real need here. He offers new and used computers for sale as well as parts, and a flat rate service fee of $159. The fee includes cleaning the unit, checking for viruses, spyware, malware bytes and more.

"Those folks who are on fixed incomes need to be able to afford computer services, by giving a flat rate," Wiess said. "They know how much they need to pay before the service is given."

However, he adds that parts are additional.

Wiess believes in a "fair and honest day's work. I don't want to lose the customer's trust."

By bringing consistency to the residents, it will be easier for them to get computer service.

As for the actual work, one brand may be easier to work on than another. Wiess said "The availability of parts determines the difficulty in making repairs or replacing parts. Companies such as Apple are the least known so have less parts available since they are both the manufacturer and supplier."

All brands have good and bad repair aspects, he said.

For those considering the computer field for their future profession, Wiess said, "It's one of the best fields to get into. As a technician it's always best to be into the development of the best of anything. It's really good to get into."

Weiss added "For those who are nervous about learning computers, it's never too late to learn something new. Don't be afraid of what you don't know."

For a total of $250 for a used system, you get a completely retrofitted unit. The number of accessories will have no impact on use; however, software will determine overall cost.

Don't throw away your old computer (regardless of type), it can be cleaned and updated by Pahrump Valley Computers.
