LAS VEGAS -- Peter Eastgate became the youngest winner in the history of the World Series of Poker, outplaying Ivan Denidov in the tournament that ended at 2:38 a.m. Tuesday.

With several hundred people watching in the Penn and Teller Theater in the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino here, Eastgate and Denidov were the last of 6,844 players who started in the $10,000 buy-in tournament in July.

Eastgate, a 22-year-old player from Denmark, had $79,500,000 in chips, while Denidov, a 27-year-old resident of Moscow, had $57,725,000 when heads-up play started at 10 p.m. Monday.

After a 20-minute break at 2 a.m., play resumed, with Eastgate possessing a dominating $120,550,000 in chips and Denidov at $16,350,000.

On the final hand, Eastgate was dealt A-diamonds-5 spades, with Denidov at 4-hearts-2 hearts. The flop came 2-diamonds-king spades-3 hearts. The turn was 4-clubs and the river was 7-spades. Eastgate's wheel beat the two pair of Denidov, who had moved all in after the river.

Eastgate called instantly and won the hand with a wheel (A-2-3-4-5), beating Denidov's two pair (fours and deuces).The youngest champion previously was Phil Hellmuth, who was 24 when he won in 1989.

First place was worth $9,152,416 -- the second-highest winning payout in WSOP history, with the second-place prize at $5,809,595.

In 2006, Jamie Gold won $12 million, with Paul Wasicka earning $6 million for second place. The field that year was an Internet-generated Series record 8,773.

Seven of the "November Nine" were eliminated relatively early in final table play that began at 10 a.m. Sunday.

The payoffs through 9 p.m. PST Monday were:

* Third, Dennis Phillips, $4,517,773;

* Fourth, Ylon Schwartz, $3,774,974;

* Fifth, Scott Montgomery, $3,096,768;

* Sixth, Darius Suharto, $2,418,562;

* Seventh, David (Chino) Rheem, $1,772,650;

* Eighth, Kelly Kim, $1,288.217 and

* Ninth, Craig Marquis, $900,670.

When play resumed Monday night, the players had nine minutes remaining in Level 37. The antes were $75,000, with the blinds at $300,000 and $600,000; which meant there was $1,050,000 in the pot before a card was dealt. Level 38 antes were $100,000 with the blinds at $400,000 and $800,000.

On the final hand (at level 39), the antes were $150,000 and the blinds $500,000 and $1 million. So there was $1.8 million in the pot to start the hand.
