League of Women Voters The League of Women Voters of Pahrump will meet at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at the JobConnect offices on Calvada Boulevard. Silver Tappers Christmas show The Nevada Silver Tappers will present a Christmas Spectacular benefit show at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 7 in the showroom at Saddle West Hotel and Casino. Coat donations Kaye's Allstate Insurance located in the Albertson's Shopping Center is accepting slightly used and new coats for the Pahrump Kiwanis Club to provide for our community needs. Coats may be dropped at the office from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday from Sept. 15 through Nov. 15. 'Saddle Bag Santa' trail rides The Rising Star Equestrian Association will sponsor "Saddle Bag Santa" trail rides to raise funds for Toys for Tots. The rides are scheduled for Nov. 29, Dec. 7 and Dec. 13. The fee is $25 per rider and a barbecue is included. Cops-N-Kids car seat safety The Nye County Sheriff's Office will hold a free child seat safety inspection 4-8 p.m. Nov. 21 at Albertson's Shopping Center. Koats for Kids Mankin's Allstate is beginning the third annual Koats for Kids drive. Over the last three years, 1,500 coats have been collected and distributed through No To Abuse. The collection point is the office, 1271 S. Highway 160. Toys for Tots Toys for Tots season is Nov. 1 through Dec. 20. Help to give a needy child a merry Christmas by making a donation or cash contribution. Collection boxes are at Wal-Mart and many other businesses. The Toys for Tots headquarters is located at 2050 N. Highway 160, Unit 700. Donations can be mailed to Toys for Tots, P.O. Box 2869, Pahrump, NV 89041. DAR meets The Pahrump Springs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 10 a.m. Nov. 12 in the Pahrump Community Library. Audition The Artistic Centre will be auditioning for cast members to perform in the play "The Lion King" beginning at 6 p.m. Nov. 14 at the center, 921 S. Highway 160, Suite 407. PAC play The Pahrump Arts Council will present "I Have Before Me a Remarkable Document Given to Me by a Young Lady From Rwanda" at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 and 15 in the auditorium at Pahrump Valley High School. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are on sale at Ace Hardware, the Pahrump Community Library and the chamber of commerce. Tickets will be available at the door. Annual craft bazaar Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Daughters of Mary will hold their annual craft bazaar 9-5 p.m. Nov. 14 and 9-3 p.m. Nov. 15 at the church, 781 E. Gamebird Road. Free dinner for seniors Nevada Joe's will host a free dinner for seniors on the first Saturday of each month. Nevada Joe's is located at the intersection ofHighways 95 and 373 in Amargosa Valley. PAC membership meeting The Pahrump Valley Arts Council will hold the quarterly general membership meeting 9:30-11:30 a.m. Nov. 15 in the Pahrump Community Library. Scouts food drive Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venture Scouts and their leaders will be conducting their annual food drive to help the Salvation Army fill Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets. Scouts will hand out bags to be filled 8-4 p.m. at Smith's Food and Drug and 9-3 p.m. at Albertson's Grocery. They will also be visiting as many homes as possible through Nov. 14 leaving bags on doors and fences. The bags are scheduled for pick up between noon and 3 p.m., Nov. 15. All donations remain in Pahrump. Non-perishable foods such as canned fruits and vegetables, boxed hot and cold cereals, soups, pasta and baby food may be put into the bags and coolers will be available on Saturday and the grocery stores for anyone wanting to donate meat, dairy or other perishables. Capt. Torres of the Salvation Army has turkeys, pies, yams, potatoes and dessert items on her wish list for the food drive. Call Jerry Magnuson, 751-9674 for more information. Utilities Inc. meeting Utilities Inc. will hold an informational customer update meeting Nov. 12 in two sessions. The first session will be 10 a.m.-noon, and the second session will be 6-8 p.m. Both will be held in the banquet room at Mountain Falls Grill Room. The agenda items include the summary of construction projects for 2009, an explanation of changes to the line extensions process, new customer care and billing software and an open discussion. PVHS PTA Pahrump Valley High School will hold the monthly Parent Teacher Student Association meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 17 in the freshmen building. All parents are invited to attend. Artist's Reception The artists reception for the new installation at the Pahrump Community Library will be 1-3 p.m. Nov. 21 at the library. The show will run through Dec. 19. AGLOW meets AGLOW, the international, interdenominational Christian women's organization, will meet at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 15 at the Rock Vineyard Church, beside Smith's Food and Drug. Pahrump Apum-Pum The annual Pahrump Apum-Pum Christmas festival will be held all day Dec. 6 at the Bob Ruud Community Center. There will be breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus, pictures with Santa, crafts, face-painting, book reading, games, videos, raffles, contests, prizes and surprises, an electric lights parade, a sing-a-long, a tree lighting and the staging of "Santa and the Wicked Wazoo." The festivities begin at 8 am and end around 9:30 p.m. Seniors weekend trip to Arizona The Pahrump Senior Center will sponsor another bus trip Dec. 6 and 7 to Lake Havasu, Ariz., for the Parade of Lights. The ticket price is $135 per person and includes a one-night stay at Quality Inn, Lake Havasu, a complimentary breakfast and the Parade of Lights buffet. On the menu will be chicken marsala with crimini mushrooms, London broil with green peppercorn sauce, Parmesan-chive mashed potatoes, braised winter vegetables, mixed green salad, roll and butter, assorted desserts, water, iced tea or coffee and hot chocolate for the boat parade. The bus will depart from the VFW on Homestead Road at 8 a.m. Dec. 6 and arrive at 11 a.m. in Lake Havasu (Mountain Standard Time). The return trip leaves Lake Havasu at noon on Dec. 7 and arrives at the VFW at 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. Reservations are necessary and are based on double occupancy. Country Christmas craft sale There will be a "Country Christmas Craft Sale" starting at 10 a.m. Nov. 30 in the parking lot of Mavericks, 340 E. Friends of the Library Pahrump Friends of the Library will have a monthly meeting at 9:15 a.m. Dec. 6 in the conference room of the Pahrump Community Library. Festival of Trees The Nathan Adelson Hospice will hold the fourth annual Festival of Trees fundraiser Nov. 23 and Dec. 5 at the Pahrump Nugget. The tree and wreath decorating party will take place Nov. 23 in the casino lounge. The Festival of Trees Gala will be Dec. 5 and will feature a black-tie-optional live auction of the trees with profession auctioneer, Ski Censki. A no-host cocktail bar will be available. A silent auction and a raffle of three top-end prizes will conclude with a sit-down dinner including Pahrump Valley Winery wines, compliments of Bill and Gretchen Loken. Entertainment will be provided by Open Road and Master of Ceremonies Dan Rodriguez. Tickets are $100 per person. Academic assembly The Pahrump Valley High School Renaissance Class is a school organization promoting academics, attendance and school spirit. They will host the academic assembly on Nov. 14 and are looking for donations of money, and goods and services to use as prizes for students with high grade-point averages and perfect attendance, as well as for teachers who do a fantastic job.
