Holiday food baskets

Nevada Outreach Training Organization is accepting applications for Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets and Christmas toys/gifts for children.

Application hours are 10 a.m. - noon, Tuesday - Thursday in the offices at 621 S. Blagg Road.

Applicants must qualify under the USDA income guidelines and present picture ID, proof of current address, and proof of total income.

Legal services

The Family Resource Center has partnered with Nevada Legal Services to provide low income residents with a virtual attorney service.

At the Family Resource Center office, personal meetings to speak to an attorney regarding civil issues is available. All necessary forms and assistance in completing them is provided by Nevada Legal Services attorneys.

Community Thanksgiving dinner

The community Thanksgiving dinner will be served starting at noon on Thursday, Nov. 27 in the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Marine Corps League meets

The Marine Corps League Detachment 1199, will hold a monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Nov. 8 in the recreation center at Wulfy's RV Park.

Fish Fry

Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church will host a Fish Fry 4-7 p.m. Nov. 7 in the parish hall at the church, 781 E. Gamebird Road.

The menu will include baked or fried fish dinner with fries and coleslaw for $7; children under 10, $3.50.

Fish taco dinners include fries and two tacos will be $6. Extras will include fish tacos for $2 each, clam chowder for $2, hot dog with fries $3.50 and desserts for $1.

Punch or coffee comes with the meal and beer, wine and sodas will be available.

Fundraiser for the Duck Pond

NyE Communities Coalition Youth Organization is holding a fundraiser for the Calvada Duck Pond.

Adopt-a-Duck trading cards are available from youth group members at a minimum donation of $10 per card.

There are 10 different cards to collect.

Proceeds will be used for supplies and improvements for the duck pond.

Trading cards are available at the NyE Communities Coalition office, 2280 E. Calvada Blvd, Suite 103.

Koats for Kids

Mankin's Allstate is beginning the 3rd annual Koats for Kids drive.

Over the last three years, 1500 coats have been collected and distributed through No To Abuse.

The generous citizens of Pahrump are appreciated for their generosity in keeping children warm.

The collection point is the office, 1271 S. Highway 160.

Holiday donations, Quilts for Cancer

Quilts for Cancer is seeking donations of small "lunchbox teats" to fill 250 stockings for seniors for the holidays.

In general donations should be small, individually wrapped juice boxes, fruit of all types, applesauce, crackers or pretzels with cheese or peanut butter, cookies or any other snacks.

No nuts, seeds, or popcorn.

Items may be dropped at H. R. Locksmith, 610 West St.; My Paralegal, 361 S. Frontage Road or On Consignment, 1190 E. Highway 372. The boxes will be picked up Oct. 30.

Monetary donations are welcome as well, and can be sent to: P.O. Box 4702, Pahrump, NV 89041. Be sure to write "Stocking" on the check.

Family movie night

The Amargosa Friends of the Library will sponsor a family movie night at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 21 in the Amargosa Community Center.

The movie is Walt Disney's "Wall-E."

The doors open at 6 p.m. and admission is $1.

Pizza, chili, hotdogs, nachos, popcorn, candy and sodas will be for sale.

Cops-N-Kids car seat safety

The Nye County Sheriff's Office will hold a free Child Seat Safety Inspection 4-8 p.m. Nov. 21 at Albertson's Shopping Center.

Men's golf club

The Pahrump Valley Men's Golf Club meets at 8 a.m. each Wednesday at Willow Creek Golf Course.

Pet adoptions

The Nye County Animal Shelter will hold pet adoptions 10-2 p.m. every Saturday at Hollywood Video, 240 S. Highway 160.

Due to the increase in animals at the Nye County Animal Shelter and the expenses in caring for them, the fees will increase.

Beginning Nov. 1, the fees for adopting a dog will be $85 and the fees for adopting a cat or kitten will be $55.

Fees include spay/neuter, vaccination, rabies shot, a bag of food and one-year county license.

Woodworker's Guild

The Pahrump Valley Woodworker's Guild is inviting anyone interested to their first meeting to be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 11.

The community service club will have emphasis on woodworking and providing a forum for all skill levels to discuss and share information about woodworking.

The Pahrump Springs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 10 a.m. Nov. 12 in the Pahrump Community Library.

Rob Mobley, a professor of American history will present a program on "Daughters and Sons of Liberty."

Animal Shelter notice

The Nye County Animal Shelter is unable to spay or neuter pets for the public at this time.

They hope to offer the service in the future.

Anti-drug abuse film

Volunteers are needed in making a documentary/educational film.

If you are 13-19 years old and your life has been adversely affected by the use of drugs or alcohol, Teen Care needs your help to make this film a reality.

Participation may be an opportunity to help someone else through sharing a personal experience. Volunteers will receive gift cards from Wal-Mart or Starbucks.

Library fall reading program

Pahrump Community Library's fall reading program, "Dino Tails," began Oct. 15.

Classes are Tiny Dinos (ages 2-3), Wednesdays 9:15-9:45 a.m. (parent must accompany child); T-rex Tails (ages 4-5), Wednesdays 10-10:45 a.m.; Story Osaurus (ages 6-12), Wednesdays 3:30-4:30 p.m.; and Teens (fifth grade and up), Thursdays 3-4 p.m.

There is no fee to attend the program and no prior sign up necessary.

The program will run through Dec. 17 with no classes during the week of Thanksgiving.

PVCAT mission statement

The PVCAT has revised its mission statement to read: "The Pahrump Valley Community Action Team is organized to assist in planning, developing and implementing strategies that will promote Pahrump and give Pahrump a sense of community and community spirit."

The three subcommittees are Beautification Education and Public Relations.

Evening church service

The Church of the Redeemed Interdenominational Church welcomes everyone who cannot attend Sunday morning church services to attend the evening service, 6 p.m. every first Sunday, 4300 E. Navajo Blvd.

Adult literacy

The Pahrump Community Library has a sufficient number of literacy tutors and is ready for students.

The service is free.

Notice to veterans

Those serving in the military from April 6, 1917 to the present have an office in Pahrump and Tonopah to take advantage of earned military benefits including: compensation, pension, education and death and burial benefits.

The Pahrump office is located in JobConnect in the Calvada Eye, Building A.

The Tonopah office is located in the Nye Regional Medical Center on Main Street.

Ken Shockley and his staff work full time to assist in doing all they can to help veterans take advantage of their earned benefits.

The hours are 8-05 p.m. at the office locations or call 537-2323.

Those unable to come to the office may get a home visit to get the ball rolling.

Coat donations

Kaye's Allstate Insurance located in the Albertson's Shopping Center is accepting slightly used and new coats for the Pahrump Kiwanis Club to provide for our community needs.

Coats may be dropped at the office from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday from Sept. 15 through Nov. 15.

Toys for Tots

Toys for Tots season is Nov. 1 through Dec. 20.

Help to give a needy child a merry Christmas by making a donation or cash contribution.

Collection boxes are at Wal-Mart and many other businesses.

The Toys for Tots headquarters is located at 2050 N. Highway 160, Unit 700.

Volunteers are need to help sort and inventory toy donations and various other tasks.

Kiwanis Christmas sale

The Kiwanis Club of Pahrump Valley will hold their last sale of the year 8-3 p.m. Nov. 8 at 1670 Cypress Point, off of Dandelion Street and Mt. Charleston Avenue.

This sale is for Christmas items only. There will be tree and package decorations, wrapping paper for $.50 per roll and assorted small gift items.

Giant rummage sale

Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church will hold their quarterly rummage sale 8-4 p.m. Nov. 7 and 8-1 p.m. Nov. 8 at the church, 1300 E. Highway 372.
