Voter turnout in Nye County was 70.2 percent, 17,528 people, during the general election, according to unofficial figures from the Nye County Clerk's office.

The figures show 32.8 percent of the registered voters voted early, 8,188, while 28.6 percent showed up on election day, 7,134. Another 2,206, 8.8 percent, voted absentee.

Nye County voter totals were highest in the presidential race, 17,486, followed by the congressional District 2 race and state Assembly District 36 race, with 16,671 and 16,418 votes cast respectively.

During the November 2006 election, a midterm presidential year, the turnout in Nye County was 57.6 percent, or 11,919 voters. In the last presidential election in November 2004, voter turnout in Nye County amounted to 75.8 percent.

The number of registered voters in Nye County increased in the last two years, from 20,719 in 2006 to 25,657, counting both active and inactive registration rolls.

Statewide, 80 percent of the registered active voters, 967,045 Nevadans, turned out at the polls during this election. Turnout varied from a high of 93 percent in Carson City County to 46.5 percent in Eureka County.
