The Pahrump Town Board will have two new members come January.

Four candidates ran for two open seats. Mike Darby won the first seat with 6,472 votes, or 28.82 percent of total votes.

At his victory celebration at the Pahrump Nugget, Darby said he thought his new position would be a little challenging but that he had a good group of supporters who want some change to the board.

"I'm beyond words," said Darby. "I'm so excited, so appreciative, just thank every one of you."

Vicky Parker won the second seat with 6,305 votes, or 28.07 percent of the total votes.

"I've spent the last six years going to town board meetings -- as well as other meetings on town business. I've learned a lot about how the town is run and it's my time to give back. An issue I ran on was having a paved path around the park, making it more manageable for handicap access. I have already spoken to the town manager about it, and if the budget permits, I want to follow through on my promise."

Incumbent Don Rust, whose term is up in December, did not win re-election. He garnered 5,111 votes, or 22.76 percent of the total votes. Rust said he will keep an eye on town business and continue to attend meetings from time to time.

"I will be paying attention," said Rust, who had just returned from a Nye County Community Coalition meeting.

Sean Brooks was not successful in his first shot at town government but was undaunted by the loss.

"I will still be politically active in the town," he said. "I will still go to the town board meetings and still listen to people's suggestions. I beat out five other people in the primary without spending a lot of money on advertising. There are three positions opening in two years, so there's always next time."

The election for Justice of the Peace for Pahrump Township Department 2 started out with a bakers' dozen of candidates. Out of the 13 people running, Kent Jasperson and Linda DeMeo ran against each other in the primary election.

Jasperson, a former deputy sheriff, won the position with 9,047 votes, or 65.71 percent of the total votes.

During the Election Night victory celebration, Jasperson said, "I thank my wife and family for all the sacrifices they made in the past year to stick behind me." He also thanked his campaign manager and supporters.

"I thank my sign crew," he added, "and my deepest gratitude to the voters of Pahrump and the vote of confidence in me to do this job."

Linda DeMeo, whose campaign had been dogged by questions about possible conflict of interest due to her husband's position as Nye County sheriff, garnered 4,721 votes, or 34.29 percent of the total.

"Was I disappointed?" she said. "Well, I'm a human being so I am a little, but I have a busy and fulfilled life and that's not going to change. I had a good election evening, surrounded by friends. I now plan to get involved with the First Choice Pregnancy group and see where they need me. And of course, I'll keep up fundraising for my other groups."

She continued, "This is a win-win situation. My husband is running again and I will be by his side. Either way, I have always been friendly toward Mr. Jasperson. I am not a bitter or angry person. I feel like everything goes my way -- the way it is meant to go."

For Nye County School Board Trustee Area II, incumbent J.E. "Doc" McNeally, won with 1,080 votes, or 53.57 percent of the total votes, besting Kathleen L. Bienenstein, who garnered 946 votes, or 46.43 percent.

For school board Area VI, incumbent Harold Tokerud, also the incombent, won with 1,181 votes, or 59.65 percent, besting Courtland H. Ofelt, who had took 799 votes, or 40.35 percent.
