Skin cancer awareness promoted by DVR drivers
Death Valley Raceway, the track your mama warned you about, is back in action Saturday at 7 p.m. Featured races include mini stocks, classic coupes, super stocks, IMCA modifieds, mini modifieds, dwarf cars and micro sprints. May is Melanoma and skin cancer awareness month. Death Valley Raceway, and the drivers are joining forces with Michael Brown, driver of the No. 31 mini stock car, to educate and inform race fans of the dangers of melanoma and skin cancer. The Amanda Faye Brown Melanoma Education Foundation, Nevada Chapter will have a booth open at the track during the race. The booth will have information on skin cancer awareness and prevention, Melanoma and skin cancer awareness items for sale, UV resistant clothing, and free giveaways. They will also be selling raffle tickets for dinner for two at the Pahrump Nugget Steak House, two tickets to the popular Las Vegas show, the Blue Man Group, and four gift certificates valued at $50, each along with t-shirts from Dragon Cloud Dojo, USA. Each gift certificate entitles the winner to two weeks of free karate lessons. Michael Brown lost his beloved wife Amanda Faye to this dreadful disease April 15, 2006. Michael promised her he would get the word out and educate everyone he can on skin cancer awareness. The intense sun in the Nevada desert is increasing melanoma and skin cancer diagnosis at an alarming rate. Take the time to visit the booth and educate yourself on prevention, skin cancer awareness and what this local foundation is doing to inform the masses. A stop at the booth could save your life or the life of someone you love. The track is conducting an open house from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. today at the Pahrump Nugget Hotel-Casino. |
