Nye County's Beatty, Tonopah and Round Mountain high schools, will compete in a realigned Southern Nevada Class A League in football and volleyball in fall 2008.

Instead of having Central and Southern divisions, there will be one Southern 1-A league that includes Spring Mountain, Indian Springs, Sandy Valley and Pahranagat Valley Alamo in football. In volleyball, Lund will have a team, as will Henderson International School, Lake Mead Christian Academy and Las Vegas Trinity International School. Spring Mountain is a school for boys only.

There are 28 Class A schools in Nevada; in the North are Austin, Carlin, Coleville, Calif., Eureka, Sparks Excel Christian, Gabbs (another Nye County school), Gerlach, Jackpot, McDermitt, Owyhee, Pyramid Lake, Reno Sage Ridge, Minden Sierra Lutheran, Smith Valley and Wells.

While the Beatty and Round Mountain football schedules have yet to be released, defending state 1-A champion Tonopah announced its 2008 slate. The Muckers will open Aug. 29 at Carlin's Railroaders, who lost 54-20 to Tonopah in the 2007 state championship game played in Reno last November.

In subsequent weeks, coach Curt McElroy's team will play at Diamond Ranch in Utah Sept. 5; home vs. Round Mountain Sept. 19; at Spring Mountain Sept. 27; home vs. Indian Springs Oct. 3; home vs. Class 2-A Laughlin Oct. 10; at Sandy Valley Oct.17; at Alamo Oct. 24 and home vs. Beatty Oct. 30.

In volleyball, coach Judi Boni's Lady Muckers will play at home against Round Mountain Sept. 19 and at Beatty Oct. 30 in two of nine league matches.

* Class 3-A will be down to 11 schools in the 2008-2009 school year. In the South will be Boulder City, Las Vegas Faith Lutheran, Overton Moapa Valley and Mesquite Virgin Valley.

The North will include Dayton, Fernley, Winnemucca Lowry, Sparks, Spring Creek, Truckee, Calif., and Yerington.

There will be 18 schools in Class 2-A and 47 in Class 4-A, including Pahrump Valley (Sunset Region Southwest Division).
