July Fourth parade needs you
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
In small towns across the country, parades are an integral part of Independence Day celebrations. And this year Pahrump is no exception. It will kick off the July Fourth festivities with a parade put on by and for the townspeople. Residents interested in watching the parade can line up at Honeysuckle Park at 9 a.m. Friday, July 4, where the procession will start, or they can watch the parade wind its way around the Calvada Eye on its way to finish back at the park. The parade is open to anyone who wishes to be a part of it, so if you're not content to simply watch, start thinking up an idea in keeping with the patriotic theme now. Willing entrants will need to step quickly, however, as the entry applications are due by June 23. Entry into the parade is free, but every entry must display at least one American Flag. Another way to be involved is by becoming one of the much-needed volunteers who line up the parade and decorate the Calvada Eye. Nonprofit community organizations that wish to sell drinks and raise funds for their group are also welcome to do so but are required to register first. If you are interested in volunteering, participating in, or have more questions about the parade, call Dan Schinhofen at 775-537-2562 or Butch Borasky at 775-209-3100. Additional information can also be acquired via e-mail at awltar@hotmail.com or butchborasky@yahoo.com. Make sure the subject line says "Independence Parade." |
