School board OKs $59 million budget for 2008-2009
Barring any more budget manuevers by the governor's office, the budget for Nye County schools in the 2008-2009 academic year will be $59,862,701. Wednesday night, the board of trustees unanimously approved that figure, which represents an increase of about $2.2 million the district will spend during the school year that ends June 30.

County sales tax hike dead again
An attempt by Nye County Commissioner Butch Borasky to try again at passing a half-cent sales tax increase failed Monday, as a motion to schedule a public hearing lacked a second.

County to purchase 292 acres at science and technology park
Nye County commissioners voted 3-0 Monday to reallocate $492,000 remaining out of a $1 million federal grant toward acquiring 292 acres of land adjacent to the Amargosa Valley Science and Technology Park.
