Cameron Belcher shot a one-under par 71 Wednesday, but it was not enough to rally Pahrump Valley past Truckee, Calif., in the Nevada Class 3-A Boys State Golf tournament at Mesquite. The Wolverines edged the Trojans 834-840 for the championship.

MESQUITE -- Bryce Poulin had a 93 at The Palms on Tuesday, but he rallied for a 79 at CasaBlanca on Wednesday, to lead Truckee, Calif., to a six-stroke victory against Pahrump Valley in the Nevada Class 3-A Boys Golf state tournament here.

The Wolverines shot 429-405--834, while the Trojans had 436-404--840, including a one-under par 71 by senior Cameron Belcher. After soaring to an 84 on Tuesday, Belcher surged into medalist contention with a 35-36--71 -- the lowest individual score of the tournament -- Wednesday.

For the Bob Hopkins-coached Trojans, who won the Southern regional championship for the first time ever last week at Mountain Falls, Will Peers had 91-82--173, Anthony Franco 97-93--190, Elliott Owens 89-78--167, Shane Lindemann 84-82--166 and Daniel Shimakawa 88-91--179. Belcher is the lone senior for the Trojans, who moves into Class 4-A in the 2009 season.

Winnemucca Lowry was third with 854. Las Vegas Faith Lutheran -- competing for unexplained reasons without Yuki Kato, the 2008 player of the year -- was fourth at 872.

Fifth was Yerington with 903, despite the presence of Vince Arrighi, who had 77-72--149 to finish second in the medalist chase.

The medalist was Brandon Dalton of Fernley; he shot 74-74--148 to earn the individual title.
