Muckers' Otteson shoots 178 in state golf tourneyPVT
NEEDLES, Calif. -- Denver Otteson, the first boy ever to represent Tonopah in a state golf tournament, shot 86-92--178 in the Class 2-A event the Rivers Edge course here Monday and Tuesday. Otteson was one of 12 individual qualifiers for the tournament who played on a par 71, 6,189-yard course in windy and warm weather. The Mucker sophomore had 86 on the first day, 92 on the second to rank third among the non-affiliated golfers. In the team event, Zephyr Cove Whittell won with 414-425--839, led by medalist Jonathan Szendrey's 79-59--158 and the 82-80--162 of Tyler Fairbanks. Ely White Pine had 433-440--873, North Tahoe 434-452--886, Battle Mountain 458-474--932, Las Vegas The Meadows 459-494--953 and Needles 477-495--972. The top 10 individuals, besides Szendrey and Fairbanks, included Chris Robison, White Pine, 79-81--160; Niko Dobrescu, White Pine, 85-82--167; Alec Griffith, North Tahoe, 79-88--167; Foster Keaton, 82-87--169; Joey Valesquez, 91-80--171; Mike Koskin, Whittell, 91-80--171; David Anderson, The Meadows, 83-90--173, and Jerrick Price, 82-92--174. * In the Class 4-A state tournament played at TPC-Las Vegas, Palo Verde won the team title with 391-408--799, with Henderson Coronado's Ted Darland the medalist at 73-77--150. Sparks Spanish Springs had 400-412--812, with Bishop Gorman's Kevin Collignon second individually with 76-76--152. |
