Graduation night 'cruise' event setPVT The 6th annual high school graduating seniors can look forward to the extravaganza at the Bob Ruud Community Center and Petrack Park. The event kicks-off at 10 p.m. May 29 following the high school graduation ceremonies at Pahrump Valley High School. This year's theme is "Cruising into the Future" which will be held on the newly commissioned "USS Pahrump." Students are in for a night of fun, games, entertainment, food and incredible prizes. Organizers Bill and Lisa Holleman and their committee, have guaranteed this to be a special night to remember. The entire Bob Ruud Community Center and Petrack Park will be converted into a premier ocean liner; complete with a captain's dining room, fine cuisine, hot night club, ports of call and shipboard games of all kinds to keep the excitement revved all night. A giant water slide, paintball arena, rock climbing wall, giant basketball and more will be outside in the "graduates Playground" on the "Imagination Deck." Inside the center building, "cruising" graduates will find fine dining in the "Captain's Lounge" -- thanks to Le Cordon Bleu Cooking School of Las Vegas and supporting parents. The young "cruisers" will be treated to the "Hideaway Photo Studio" sponsored by Pahrump Party Supply and Dube Photography. Graduates will be able to dress in appropriate costumes and get free "cruise" photos taken in one of the "ports of call" in Hawaii, or New Orleans or perhaps the shipboard casino. Like any other night aboard a cruise liner, this night will be filled with music and dancing -- thanks to the premier DJs, Wayne Para from Five Star Productions in California livening up the "Lido Deck" and Howling at the Moon DJ Jim to keep it pumping on the "Promenade Deck." There will also be a local band performing on the "Inspiration Deck." This event is free and open to all graduates from Pahrump and their dates. Thanks to generous donations from over 100 businesses in the community, grand prizes or computers, dorm refrigerators, TVs, stereo systems, digital cameras and a lot more, are given out to the graduates at the end of the evening's events. Each graduating student will be awarded grand prize gifts. Lt. Bill Brecht of the Nye County Sheriff's Office will volunteer his time to insure the peace and safety of the grand night "cruisers.' The event is designed to provide graduates with a safe, alcohol, and drug-free evening to remember. Since no kid wants to party with their parents, the "Cruise Ship" will be open for the general public between 7-8:30 p.m., Thursday, May 29. |
