Keep negativity out of the park

PVT Publisher Marie Wujek's editorial "It's your park -- see about preserving it" of May 2 was great and inspired me to put these thoughts to paper that have been roaming around in my mind since I read the article, "Civil War battle to be waged in Eye," April 25.

Why would anyone even think for a fleeting moment of holding such an event in the Eye near the duck pond?

The acrid smell of black powder and the deafening sound of bursting shells not only accelerate the heartbeat but it also greatly disturbs the nervous systems of both animals and humans.

Recall how the news media always remind us to bring our pets inside before fireworks are exploded? Why does the town board, with the exception of Mr. Rust, want to disturb the peace and tranquility of the duck pond inhabitants and visitors?

What are they thinking, or are they?

Reenactments of any kind of original thought forms only energize the beliefs and patterns of that event, re-awakening the original emotions and further perpetuating the thought form, in this case, war.

The Civil War (1861-65) was the only battle fought on American soil by Americans and it's reported 60,000 died. Do we really want that kind of event here again?

Why would anyone want to keep that memory alive? Truly, there are more peaceful and constructive memories that can be honored.

Memories/beliefs are held in our subconscious mind, we never really forget anything, it's all there for the re-awakening, but fear and stress activates negative memories.

"Our subconscious minds have no sense of humor, play no jokes and cannot tell the difference between reality and imagined thought or image." (Robert Collier, motivational author, 1885-1950).

We live in a holographic universe where everything is connected and interacts. Our minds are like simulators and our thoughts do the simulating.

When our thoughts are permeated with emotions, like the excitement created by a "sham battle" and violence, those original thoughts are resurrected in the matrix.

"A thought that is imbued with the power of emotion produces the feeling that brings it to life." ("The Spontaneous Healing of Belief," Gregg Braden).

We humans must be cognizant of our thoughts and what we are creating. I, for one, do not want another war in our country, or that involves our country, or any other.

Given some thought, many more of us might discover that all of these "wars" that our country has been involved in since World War I, quite possibly could have been averted if only we, the collective, had not continued to reenact negative thought forms that have become patterns and beliefs.

By ceasing the reenactment of a negative past, allowing the past to be just what it is -- past -- we can focus on creating a positive present future.

"Life is a mirror and will reflect back to the thinker what he thinks into it." (Ernest Holmes 1887-1960), founder of Science of Mind).

The choice is ours.

Responsible spending

I have been involved in the Pahrump community for about 13 years now, am a taxpayer and a concerned citizen. I do participate in the political process, attend meetings, write letters, volunteer my time on occasion and take an interest in the direction that the Pahrump community is heading.

I am not an elected official.

Mr. Bogdan (May 7) indicates in the tone of his letter that my due diligence that I performed to research the project proposed by Corrections Corp. of America, is only something an elected official should do.

If all citizens took time to be involved in our community and did the same due diligence that elected officials do, wouldn't that perhaps lead to more intelligent debates and well-thought-out solutions?

Isn't having our citizens involved in what transpires in our community better than the rhetoric being put forward by Mr. Bogdan?

Mr. Bogdan, lacking a good retort to my original letter, then resorts to tasteless behavior, insinuating that I am a "shill" or "pimp" for Corrections Corporation of America. This is a disgusting way to express oneself.

I am an adjacent property owner of the proposed site where Corrections Corporation of America would like to build a detention center, therefore I have a vested interest in wanting to know as much about my neighbor as possible.

I certainly do not want a project next to me or my neighbors that would be detrimental to our interests or those of the community, therefore I chose to get involved.

Mr. Bogdan would be better served to support his arguments with facts and not call me names such as "shill" or "pimp," as this serves no purpose. He should be ashamed of his behavior and I believe an apology is in order.

Corrections Corporation of America is a private company, building a detention facility with private funds. It is not using taxpayer money.

It is not being a burden on the taxpayers of Pahrump. If anything, it will be a tremendous asset to our community, creating jobs and spending money on goods and services.

Mr. Bogdan goes on to compare Corrections Corp. to Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Ariz.

Quite frankly, I do not see the correlation between Corrections Corp. and Arpaio as they are separate and distinct issues which have nothing to do with each other.

Mr. Bogdan alludes to the fact that the prison will be quite expensive. Yes, indeed, it will and Corrections Corp. is spending $80 million (approximately) to build this prison.

It is Corrections Corp. of America's money and it has every right to spend the money as it pleases. This is America and we are a free capitalistic country, and quite frankly the behavior demonstrated by Mr. Bogdan is un-American.

Corrections Corp. of America was recently named as one of the top 100 corporations in America to work for.

I implore Mr. Bogdan to explore the facts concerning Corrections Corp., get involved in his community a bit more and perhaps do the same due diligence as our elected officials, so that he can contribute in a beneficial way to the democratic process that we have in our town of Pahrump.
