An unidentified dead body was discovered in the aftermath of a vehicle fire on Bell Vista Avenue and Woodchips Road Wednesday, April 7.

The fire was reported by numerous residents in the neighborhood who called 911 and reported seeing smoke or the fire at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Pahrump Valley Fire Rescue Service and Nye County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the scene.

Fire Chief Scott Lewis said by the time firefighters arrived the vehicle was already a "well-involved fire" that had begun to spread to wood pallets on the ground lying next to a nearby property.

The fire rescue personnel were able to extinguish both fires prior to any structures being harmed, but Lewis said early in the extinguishing process it was determined a body was in the vehicle and the fire was a "non-survivable event."

The sheriff's office said the body was discovered in the front seat of the vehicle. It is working to identifying the victim.

The Nevada State Fire Marshall and sheriff's office general assignment detectives were then dispatched to the scene.

The sheriff's office said it it was too early in the investigation to determine what caused the vehicle to burn.

The incident is still under investigation.
