Republican office needs volunteers

The Nye County Republican Central Committee opened its office May 1.

Volunteers are needed to man the office Monday-Friday at 1330 S. Highway 160 beside Quizno's.

Amargosa Days art/craft show

In conjunction with Amargosa Days, the Amargosa Valley Art Guild will hold the 6th annual art and craft show, 10-3 p.m., June 7, at the Amargosa Valley Community Center, 812 E. Amargosa Farm Road.

All artistic mediums are welcome.

Prizes will be awarded for best art, best heritage art, best fabric art and best display.

A $100 Holtz award will be presented for best of the best.

All entries must be homemade.

Swap meet items are not acceptable.

The schedule for Family to Family Connection for May is as follows:

May 13 -- Sun safety, 1 p.m.

May 16 -- Family Vehicle Safety, 1 p.m., call to register.

May 20 -- Teen parenting class in collaboration with WIC, 2 p.m.

May 23 -- Nevada Early Intervention Services Explore and Learn Playgroup, 11 a.m.

May 26 -- closed for Memorial Day.

May 27 -- Car seat safety check, call for appointment.

Mondays -- Scrapbooking class, 1-2 p.m.

Wednesdays -- Understanding the concepts of parenting, 3 p.m., for parents with children birth to 5 years-old.

Thursdays -- Mommy and me play group, 1 p.m.

The resource lending library is open 9-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Vendors for Chili Cook-off

The Chamber of Commerce still has space open for vendors to sell their wares at the Chili Cook-off on May 17.

In addition to the cook-off there will be a Civil War reenactment, food, entertainment and fun for the whole family.

Booth space is $30. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and end around 5 p.m.,

Homeland Heroes dinner

The Homeland Heroes will sponsor dinner, 5-7 p.m., May 9, VFW Post 10054, 4651 Homestead Road.

Beef stroganoff over egg noodles, green salad, veggies, dinner rolls and dessert is on the menu. The cost is $6 per person.

Laureate Omicron

The Laureate Omicron chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will meet Monday at the home of Lynne Halbash.

Venture Crew #808 will hold a yard sale May 10-11, 5551 Cline Street, near the west end of Country Place.

Items include plants, rocks and minerals.

The Gymkhana scheduled for June 7 has been canceled.

The next show will be 6 p.m., June 21.

Vendors wanted

The First Choice Pregnancy Center will hold the 2nd annual Caring Hearts Bazaar, a Mother's Day shopping spree, 9 a.m.-noon, May 10 at the Bob Rudd Community Center.

AGLOW meets

AGLOW is an interdenominational international Christian women's organization providing opportunity for women to grow in faith and in service to others.

The next meeting will be 9:30 a.m., May 17 at the Rock Vineyard Church, 1370 Matthews Lane, beside Smith's.

The Pahrump Valley Rough Riders will have a car wash 10-2 p.m., May 17 at the Rebel station next to Walgreens.

Tickets can be purchased in advance from any PVRR member. The cost is $10.

Bowl-a-thon fundraiser

The Desert View Regional Medical Center volunteer auxiliary will sponsor a bowl-a-thon to help raise money for the installation of a memorial/healing garden at the hospital. The event will be held 10-3 p.m., May 18 at the Nugget Bowl.

The cost is $20 per person and the fee includes shoes and three games of bowling.

All ages are welcome.

A charitable donation of $15 my be deducted on taxes.

Drawings will be held every hour, tickets are $1 each or six for $5.

Shoes and sock donations

For the Love of Kids and Bikes is taking shoes and socks donations at the Short Branch Saloon in Crystal.

The donation of a pair of shoes will get the donor a steak dinner and a pair of socks will get the donor a meatloaf dinner.

The drive ends Aug. 17.

The Short Branch opens at 10 a.m. and is closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Rebuilding Together is still working on houses that qualified for repair help in Pahrump.

Proceeds go to benefit the mortgage reduction fund.

Soroptimists dinner/dance

Soroptimists International Pahrump Valley will host a springtime dinner/dance, 6 p.m., May 17 Charleston Peak Clubhouse at the winery.

The event will be for members and their spouses to get to know each other and introduce club members to the community.

There will be a no host bar, entertainment and a silent auction.
