Seniors line dancing The Kiwanis Club of Pahrump Valley is hosting free line dancing lessons for senior citizens at 6:30 p.m., May 9, Bob Ruud Community Center. The event is open to those 55 and over. Refreshments will be served. Call 727-7191 for more information. Stand for Children Day The 9th annual Stand for Children Day/Teacher of the Year Program will be held at 11:30 a.m., May 10, Rosemary Clarke Middle School. The following teachers were chosen as Teachers of the Year. PVHS, Tracie Cornelius; RCMS, Carol Hunn; Hafen Elementary Jessica Jones; J.G. Johnson, Linda Sims; Manse Elementary, Carolin (Lin) Steele; Mt. Charleston Elementary, Keele McDaniel; Community Christian Academy, Dawn Alexander. The community is invited to join them on May 10. The program includes a luncheon, Teacher of the Year awards from each school and all youth entertainment. Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased by calling 537-1115 or 727-9970. Spring carnival Hafen Ranch Elementary will have the annual Spring Carnival 11-2 p.m., May 10, Hafen Ranch Elementary, 7120 Hafen Ranch Road. Activities include a blood drive, games, food, pony rides, face painting, K-9 demonstration, a firefighter demonstration, prizes, cake walk, silent auction, raffles, balloon animals, relay races, sheriff awards, a photo booth, and a dunk tank for Dr. Owens, the principal. The event is hosted by the Hafen Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization. Call 513-4951 for more information. Poetry and coffee The ongoing poetry and coffee meeting will be 10 a.m.-noon, May 10 at Lois Layne's Deli, off of Highway 160 on Basin Road at the corner of Dahlia.
