High school senior Emily Poertner of Pahrump has been awarded a $500 scholarship by Sanford Center for Aging of the University of Nevada, Reno. She plans to attend the university in the fall. Her award and those of other scholarship recipients was announced at the Sanford Center for Aging's annual awards and recognition ceremony 4:30 p.m. May 5 in the fourth-floor ballroom of the Joe Crowley Student Union on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. Created in 1993, the Sanford Center for Aging develops innovative programs, supports education and research, and partners with community organizations to "add life to years" of Nevada elders.
