Beatty, Muckers in playoff series

Beatty and Tonopah are involved in Class A sub-regional baseball and fast-pitch softball tournaments today, with berths in the Southern playoffs next week at stake.

The Hornets' baseball team, 4-6 in the Central Division, is at defending Nevada Class A state champion Las Vegas Calvary Chapel, 10-0, today, with games at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Beatty's fast-pitch softball team is at Lake Mead Christian Academy for a twin bill, starting at 1 p.m.

Tonopah's fast-pitch softball team is at home today, playing Las Vegas Calvary Chapel at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in a best-of-three series. A third game, if necessary, will start at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The Muckers' baseball team, 6-4 in the Central Division and a No. 3 seed, will travel to No. 2 South Lake Mead Christian Academy, 7-3, for a best-of-three series, starting at 1 p.m. today.The second game will start at 3 p.m.; if necessary, a third game will be played at 10 a.m. Saturday.

* No. 4 South Laughlin, 5-5, at No. 1 Central Pahranagat Valley Alamo, 9-1, 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday, noon Saturday if necessary;

* No. 3 South Las Vegas Mountain View Christian, 6-4, at No. 2 Central Indian Springs, 7-3; 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Friday, noon Saturday if necessary.

In softball, other pairings are:

* No. 4 South Laughlin, 0-6, at No. 1 Central Pahranagat Valley Alamo, 8-0, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. today; noon Saturday, if necessary.

* No. 4 Central Indian Springs, 1-7, at No. 1 South Las Vegas Mountain View Christian, 6-0; 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. today; noon Saturday, if necessary.

Indian Springs edged Round Mountain 19-18 in a play-in game Tuesday to earn a sub-regional berth.

Alamo wrapped up the Central title with a double shutout sweep of Round Mountain Friday, 18-0 and 13-0.

Mountain View got the No. 1 seed in the South by defeating Lake Mead 5-4 and 16-2 last Friday.
