Kelvin Owens, 43, has confessed to shooting and killing Bridgette Vavonese, 49, Thursday evening, April 24, according to the Nye County Sheriff's Office Detective division.

Detectives were dispatched to the south end of town near Thousandaire Boulevard and Homestead Road to investigate a reported gunshot wound.

Upon arriving, the officers found Owens with a gunshot wound to the face at a neighbor's house apparently in the same compound where the victim was killed.

Patrol deputies reportedly followed a blood trail to a nearby residence where they found Vavonese, deceased, inside a small travel trailer.

An autopsy confirmed Vavonese had been shot once in the head and had suffered blunt force trauma.

A single .380-caliber handgun was recovered at the scene.

Drug paraphernalia and signs of a struggle were reportedly found throughout the trailer.

Further investigation revealed Owens and Vavonese were involved in a drug-induced domestic dispute that escalated to Owens allegedly beating and then shooting Vavonese.

The specific circumstances surrounding Owens' wound are unclear. Detectives did not speculate on the actual sequence of events at the trailer occupied by Vavonese.

Owens reportedly confessed to the crime while being treated for his injuries in Las Vegas.
