Glamour photo shoot

The Cinderella Girl Scholarship Program will have a glamour photo shoot by Enfocus Photography 10 a.m. to 7:15 p.m., May 3, at Seemoore's Too.

Costs must be pre-paid and are $19.95 for a complete session, plus a 10 x 13 portrait for one person. Additional guests are $9.95.

Drawing the nude workshop

There will be a workshop on variations in drawing the nude with artist Jehane Rucquoi beginning at 9 a.m., March 29 at Tecopa Hot Springs Resort.

Rucquoi is a painter and has been an artist since childhood. Originally from Belgium, she has studied art around the world including New York, Florence and Beijing.

The class size is limited to 10 and the cost is $50 for the full day. Price includes model fee.

Bring large newsprint pad or sheets with solid backing 29 x 22, clips to hold the paper, charcoal, soft rags and a kneaded eraser.

The speaker will be Brian Brown of China Ranch to show slides and speak about his ancestors who were early settlers of the Shoshone area.

Ms. Senior Nye County Pageant

The Ms. Senior Nye County Pageant for 2008 will be held April 4-5, at Saddle West Hotel and Casino.

Any ladies at the elegant age of 60 plus may enter. Everyone has a talent and dancers, singers, comediennes or any other stage performances are welcome.

The winner of the pageant will continue to the Ms. Senior Nevada State Pageant to be held at the Suncoast Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas at the end of August.

Spring rummage sale

School volunteers luncheon

The Nye County School District will host the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon in honor of volunteer hours donated to schools and the community.

The luncheon will be 11-1:30 p.m., April 19 in the Rosemary Clarke Middle School cafeteria, 4201 N. Blagg Rd.

The school board encourages volunteers to attend since this is a way of expressing gratitude for time given to the children and the community.

Pet adoption

The Nye County Animal Shelter will sponsor a pet adoption 10-2 p.m., April 12 at Hollywood Video, 250 S. Hwy. 160.

PAC art for youth classes

Art for Young People, sponsored by the Pahrump Arts Council in conjunction with the Pahrump Valley Museum, is sponsoring free art classes.

The classes are taught by fine artists, crafters and fiber artists.

IHOBF recital

The International House of Blues Foundation invites the public to "The Blues Schoolhouse" and a concert recital for the Positive Action and Methodologies Prevention programs at 9 a.m., April 9, Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas.

The IHOBF Action for the Art Initiative raises awareness about the importance of the arts and creates opportunities for students to exhibit/perform their artistic creations.

The Pahrump Homeschool Bowling League is now taking sign-ups for the spring season.

The league is open to all homeschooled children ages 3-17 with parental consent.

The League will play 9 a.m., April 11 to June 20 with a bye week May 2.

The cost is $65 per bowler for the season and includes two games bowled per week, shoe rental, league bowler ID card, a pizza party on the last day and the award ceremony.

The Pahrump Community Library's Tumbleweed Tales Poetry Group is offering a new class.

"Shakespeare Made Simple" presents Shakespeare's plays in a way that makes it easier for all to understand.

The first play will be "The Taming of the Shrew." Bring your own copy or copies will be provided by the library. The class is free.

Free tax aide service

IRS trained counselors will be offering their services at the Bob Ruud Community Center, Room B, Basin Road and Highway 160.

The goal is to provide free tax preparation and e-filing to young, low-income taxpayers and working seniors who may qualify for the earned income tax credit and may not be receiving it.

The volunteers will be available Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. during the tax season through April 20.
