Youth dead as ATV flips
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
Scott James, 11, died Thursday, March 20, after succumbing to head injuries that resulted from an all-terrain vehicle rollover. James had been left at home on Galley Road near Stephanie Street with a younger sibling when he attempted to ride a neighbor's quad. The vehicle belonged to a 14-year-old neighbor who had been asked to leave prior to James' parents going to a store. The neighbor boy reportedly returned with the vehicle and allowed James to try it out. James over-accelerated, causing it to flip over on top of him. James, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained massive blunt force trauma to his head. A Scott James Memorial Fund at Bank of America has been set up. The local Wal-Mart, located on Highway 160, is also accepting donations on behalf of Scott James. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 28, at the Bob Ruud Community Center and Petrack Park at 2 p.m. |
