Not without a fight

Patty Sue McGraw, 41, was arrested for attempted robbery at Terrible's Town Casino Wednesday, March 19, when she allegedly attempted a purse-nabbing from under a bathroom stall.

Nye County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the casino at 11 p.m. where they met with the 63-year-old victim of the attempted robbery, Caroline Smith.

Smith told deputies she was in a bathroom stall when she saw an arm reach under the door and grab the strap of her purse.

Unwilling to let go of her belongings without a fight, Smith also grabbed the strap and reportedly said a minute-long struggle ensued during which she yelled for the robber to let go.

After collecting herself and exiting the stall, Smith reportedly saw McGraw (who was identified by deputies from previous encounters with law enforcement) and pointed the would-be thief out to casino security.

The casino security kept McGraw in sight until sheriff's office deputies arrived.

McGraw was placed in hand restraints before being transported to the detention center, according to the sheriff's office press release.

McGraw was booked on attempted robbery and her bail was set at $10,000.

Lost and Found

Another unsuccessful purse-snatching attempt occurred at Paddy's Pub Saturday, March 22.

Christopher McDougall, 22, was arrested for grand larceny after allegedly taking Glena Casey's purse.

Deputies met 23-year-old Casey at the bar around 3 a.m. in response to a report of a stolen purse.

After speaking with Casey, deputies went over surveillance footage with Manager Russ Rogers "who was extremely helpful" in the process, according to sheriff's office press release.

The video allowed deputies to locate McDougall, who hadn't gone far and was found sitting on a bench outside the bar.

According to the sheriff's office press release, McDougall admitted to taking the purse "but was unable to recall its location."

Eventually the purse and some of its contents were located, however, and returned to Casey.

"It should be noted that the staff of Paddy's was very helpful with assisting the Nye County Sheriff's Office," the press release said.

Sex offenders found

Two registered sex offenders and a person with an out of state warrant for his arrest were located by Sgt. Bob Balding Friday, March 21.

Only Shawn A. Smith, 30, was identified specifically by the sheriff's office.

He was arrested and booked on a charge of sex offender failure to change address and his bail was set at $3,000.

Balding went to the carnival in the Pahrump Nugget's parking lot searching for a known sex offender who had reportedly worked carnivals in the past.

After contacting the manager, who said the suspect was not in her work force, Balding asked for, and was provided with, a list of current employees.

A check of the names revealed two sex offenders and the person with the outstanding warrant.

Two of the individuals were contacted by Balding and arrested at the carnival, and the third suspect was found at an off-site maintenance yard.

All three were reportedly arrested without incident and transported to the Nye County Detention Center.
