Coronado Blue triumphs in PV golf tournament

Pahrump Valley's boys golf team rallied for a 328 Tuesday, as the Trojans narrowly missed winning the Silver Flight in their own invitational tournament. The Trojans finished at 375-328--703 to finish behind Las Vegas Bonanza Brown's 371-329--700 in the 36-hole medal play tournament, contested on the par 72, 6,670-yard Mountain Falls course. The Gold Flight championship was won by Henderson Coronado Blue, with 346-315--661. Palo Verde Silver finished with 349-319--668, while San Diego Mater Dei Gold had 359-312--671 for third. In the Maroon Flight, Hesperia (Calif.) had 769, Pahrump Valley Maroon 789 and Las Vegas 799. Tonopah, which played in this tournament for the first time, had 875 to finish 20th out of 22 teams. A third Mater Dei team was 21st with 894, while Las Vegas Canyon Springs was last with 918. Damian Coughlin of Henderson Green Valley was medalist with 74-74--148. Oscar Casillas of Mater Dei had 153. Playing for Pahrump Valleywere Cameron Belcher (87-75--162), Will Peers (94-83--177), Shane Lindemann (95-80--175) and Elliott Owens (94-91--185). Isaac Shook, Daniel Shimakawa, Anthony Franco and Josh Spradlin also played in the tournament, co-sponsored by Sierra Vista. In a Southern Nevada Class 3-A League match played Thursday, Pahrump Valley shot 423, while Las Vegas Faith Lutheran had 411. Mesquite Virgin Valley had 433, Overton Moapa Valley 453 and Boulder City 453. Needles, Calif., did not have a full team. For the Trojans, Will Peers had 85, Cameron Belcher 82, Elliott Owens 90, Shane Lindemann 81, Daniel Shimakawa 85 and Josh Spradlin 98. Faith Lutheran's Yuki Kato was medalist with 72; teammate Blake Hampton had 74, with Mike Mayer at 84, Taylor Plant 92, Trevor Ensign 89 and Charley Berry 96. Josh Chambers had 78 for Virgin Valley; Jon Oglesby led Moapa Valley with 83 and Jeremy Dunbar paced Boulder City with 84. The next league match will be hosted by Faith Lutheran Thursday. The next home match for the Trojans will be the Southern regionals May 8, at Mountain Falls. |
