CORONADO TEAMS RANK 1-2 Bad weather hits PV golf tourney

Wind and cold temperatures didn't cool off the Henderson Coronado boys' golf teams Monday, when the Pahrump Valley Invitational started a two-day run at Mountain Falls. The Coronado Blue team, led by Ted Darland's 38-42--80 on the windswept par 72, 6,600-yard course, shot 341. Five strokes back was the Coronado Red, with 346, as Rick Glenn had 42-40--82. Medalist on the first day with 37-37--74 was Damian Coughlin of Henderson Green Valley. The Gators were fifth with 354. In at 39-39--78 was Bradley Rowland of Arbor View; his teammate, Mark Augustin, had 40-39--79 as the Aggies scored 349, to tie Palo Verde Green for third place at 349. The tournament concluded Tuesday in significantly better weather than Monday, when gusts up to 50 miles per hour blasted across the southern Pahrump golf complex. Completing the list of the top eight teams were Palo Verde Silver, 358; Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei Gold, 359, and Mater Dei Blue, 361. Co-host Pahrump Valley Gold had 375, as Cameron Belcher shot 42-45--87, Elliott Owens, 48-46--94; Shane Lindemann, 39-58--97 and Daniel Shimakawa, 48-51--99. Pahrump Valley Maroon had 413, with Will Peers at 51-43--94; Anthony Franco 51-44--95; Josh Spradlin 50-60--110 and Isaac Shook 55-59--114. Tonopah, in its first-ever appearance in the tournament co-hosted by Sierra Vista, had 441. Denver Otteson had 45-49--94, Chris Greber 57-54--111, Drew McLeod 57-56--113 and Conrad Baker 64-59--123. The Muckers' Mike McLaughlin had 60-56--116, with Alex Bridgman at 72-72--144. Other team scores were Phoenix Northwest Christian 372, Foothill 375, Faith Lutheran 378, Bonanza Gold 379, Mater Dei extras 389, Hesperia (Calif.) 404, Bonanza Brown 411, Las Vegas 420, Mater Dei extras 458, Canyon Springs 480 and Spring Valley (did not score). Thirty-two players shot under 90; another 35 scored between 91 and 99, and 36 players ranged from 100 to 144. One player had no card. |
